I was planning to fit an aftermarket reversing camera, since my aftermarket CarPlay box will support one. But I'm now thinking that I might prefer to retrofit a factory camera, and I'm looking for some guidance.

As far as I can tell I need the camera (A2078200897), the control module (A2128270006), the cable between them (part number?) and presumably a cable to connect the control unit to some other module (which one, and which cable?).

If I get hold of all those bits, would the module then need to be coded to the car, or will it detect it automatically? I've looked in the engineering menu, and I've seen an entry that appears to allow me to select which type of reversing camera I have (currently it's the 'not installed' type), so would this allow me to enable the camera by myself, or is a trip to STAR/Xentry system required?

I don’t know if it’s still available, but all the physical parts required used to be available as a retrofit kit from your friendly main dealer.

I did have @Alfie retrofit the reversing camera to my 2015 E63 and there was definitely a data card update involved, but not sure about calibration of the on-screen guidelines etc.

Ooh - a factory kit would be interesting. I'll look into that, thank you.

If it’s still available it’ll save much hassle.

Obviously it includes the camera, mounting hardware and loom, but also less obvious bits like the trim that’s at the top of the number plate aperture that changes too.

Ah, I didn't realise I'd need a new trim piece. There seems to be a small square blanking plate, which I assumed was where the camera would go, but I haven't investigated in detail.

I have a video on my channel. I retro fitted the OEM camera kit to my old CLS63 AMG

A question regarding the reversing guidelines. In your video you say that it needs NTG4.5 to get reversing guidelines, yet the factory camera in my 2006 W221 (NTG3) has them, and they even move in response to the steering wheel angle. So I'm surprised to see that your NTG4 installation didn't have the guidelines. Its one of the reasons that I'm considering the OEM camera rather than a much cheaper aftermarket camera. Is it perhaps model dependent? My S212 has NTG4.
