Hi,

I started my car today and was greeted with a nasty clatter. I had a look under the bonnet and saw what looked like smoke coming from the front right injector along with a loud ticking/chatter. Also the injector is caked in what looks like a dry black tar.

Is this a big job to get done and is it big ££££££ ??

Also I'm guessing it's a trip to MB as no doubt it's going to need coding like everything else on the car.

Would it be ok to drive or get the AA to come and get the car.

The car is a 2009 E350 CDi blue efficiency coupe (C207 I think)

Any help appreciated

Gaz

Would it be ok to drive with this issue to a garage or do you think it best to call out the AA?

Here's a picture of what I'm dealing with

Oh no, new engine I'm afraid.

ONLY JOKING :D (Not very funny I know!)

Yes it can be driven, no problem. The injector seal has failed and will need replacing. Make sure the garage know what they are doing or have some experience in these. If not, go elsewhere.

In your opinion would it be better to get it done at Mercedes rather than an independent??

I am in east London, not sure of any garages that would have much experience with this sort of thing tbh.

Really appreciate your help.

It is quite common on Mercedes (failed copper washer) so a good indy should know what to do. There is no advantage of taking it to a Mercedes dealer, except you will pay up to 50% more. It is actually a DIY repair so you could tackle it yourself if you are handy with the spanners - I did my own after a garage bodged it.

The parts are only a few quid (copper washer, stretch bolt and 'special' grease but expect to pay anywhere from £30 to £60 depending on where in the country you are. If the injectors are stuck, it could take longer to do so you need to be prepared to pay for extra time.

Don't let the term 'black death' scare you, it's a repair like most others, just requires some patience and needs to be done properly, especially the cleaning.

EDIT:

Not too familiar with London Indies, the only one is Wayne Gates but may be the wrong side of London? Terry knows what he is doing though

Found a couple of Diesel specialists in the area that have Mercedes experience so hopefully will get it sorted today.

Will let you know what happens.

Really appreciate your help.

Some say that using copper washers from a Honda are better than Mercedes ones. Don't ask me which Honda ?
