Hi guys,

Just got the news that MB Diesel Cls 220 has failed MOT due to emissions problem. It needs to be kept overnight for further investigation and I will know more by tomorrow.Only purchased in March 21 and it has 57000 miles on the clock.First MOT.
Anyone can explain me how it can happen and mostly if there costly repairs to expect?
I purchased it at 22000 miles but do long distance for work.
Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would hope that any repairs would be carried out under warranty as it is its first MOT. Presumably, there has been at least one service since you bought the car?

Well you would think 35,000 in 8 months would have blown the crap out of it but wait till tomorrow, its anyone guess at the moment. What year is it. Let us know how it goes tomorrow, good luck.

Are the emissions hi, or just over the MB plated value.

If the VIN plate states a low value in the double square box that's the value to meet at the MOT, regardless of the national limit for its age.

Yes I had a b service done in august. The MOT was already on the car when I bough it back in March.

They said in the videos that emission is exceeding the plate value and that’s all I know

I understand that’s a lot of mileage but surprised this issues are happening so soon.

I had an issue last year, didn't meet plate value, mot station said "needs new dpf" i said I would need proper diagnostic check before replacing the DPF, they said it was impossible to check, so i took to Mercedes dealer who checked it and not only did it pass the emissions test, it passed easily (0.01, limit on vin was 0.1) went back to MOT garage who failed it again but i noticed they were not revving hard enough whereas MB we doing it with the diagnostic too and it was hitting the limiter at 4500rpm and of course after a couple of goes it clears (this is the correct method)the MOT garage were going to report MB for having fault kit, I just said I would get DVSA to look into the mot and all of a sudden it passed? This year I took it to a local independent specialist, passed with flying colours!
