Hi

whats everyone's opinion on fitting "fake" buttons that dont actually do anything..... ie fake heated seat buttons.

i have the opportunity to get a new piece of wood trim that will replace my scratched one but it has heated seat button holes there, but my car doesnt have them.

also - any suggestions on what i could cover the holes with as an alternative solution....

or should i just not bother and wait for the correct wood...?

please take some time to fill in the poll for me :)

I'll see this car on saturday so will be able to guess more then, but i reckon fake buttons will just remind you of features your car doesn't have and look naff. I'd wait for the correct wood

getting the buttons now gives you the option later if some heated seats come up...

i doubt i would do that mod - the seats i have are orthopedic and electric so i reckon i'd be hard pushed to find a right match.... and i think the mod is pretty complex and expensive.

I believe the heated element can be fitted into your existing seats- might be handy where you live, especially on leather seats :)

Guess who has a complete heated seat set he keeps meaning to get fitted to Natalies car:rolleyes: .

I agree with Smatt - fit proper buttons and find the other bits later.

The elements are about £30-50 each and then you have to get some wiring and other modules but it is a totally possible mod for most cars.

If it's any consolation I had heated seat switches on my previous W202 that did nothing as I replaced the dash components when fitting comand and decided to get the one with all the toys. The switches were about £120 IIRC as it's a module the full-length of the panel and is full of hardware! Pity that car had to die really.

Fit original looking switches but label them 'Ejector seat' or 'Self destruct' or something similar. See how many of your passengers press them. :D

Its no different really for me owning a fairly lowly C200K but having sports pack wheels and brakes.
Its all just for looks really if I am honest. No difference at all.
Its your car. Do whatever YOU want. So what if somebody thinks its wrong?

i'm thinking i could add other switches there to fill the holes and put them into use - one thing i could do with actually is a switch to switch off the power going to the rear cig lighter i fitted in the boot. Its contstant 12v at the moment.... it would be good to switch on/off at will.

that leaves me with one more button to fill....

any ideas?

How about a set of blue foglights concealed in the front grill:devil:

How about a big underbonnet light?

I mean a proper one. Not a tidly little 21watt affair.
A nice fluorescent strip might come in handy one dark night down an unlit country lane............

Two words: explosive bolts. Used for mounting a second, ersatz exhaust system.

Please do not tailgate.

Having a pre-facelift W203, I'm reminded constantly by the dash trim of all the gizmos and do-dads my car doesn't and can't have. Luckily, most of my vision is occupied by that movie on the windscreen.

As for the would-be wood (if it weren't something else) trim, don't ask a bunch of internaweb geeks to decide what you think looks good. We won't be riding in your car anyway.

update - i bought the wood - as i got it at a cheap price considering it was brand new.

at least now i can look at it "in the flesh" and decide whetehr i'll fit it or not, or just sell it on.

That was a bargain.

Let me know if you need two heated seat switches.

I'd need your part number to tell you that.

I have HUNDREDS of switches for W201s, W124s, W202s, W126s & more.

Thats the thing, I don't know if the electric seat heating was specific for the W202 or if MB borrowed the part from the W124...
