I need to purchase 4 new tyres and have been following with interest members views and recommendations.

I've currently got Michelin Pilot Premacy's on the rear and Pirelli P6000's on the front. I would like to go for Michelin's all round but money is an issue and due to the age and type of car (hardly sporty) I need something cheaper.

I've been trawling through the various tyre test pages and heard pretty good reviews of Falken Tyres so I am quite tempted. They seem to be in a similar bracket to P6000's but get a better reviews for handling and noise.

They are also very reasonable when purchased on line from a Specialist Falken dealer (see http://www.falkentyres.co.uk/index.asp) at only £42.42 including VAT for a 205/55 W16.

Has anyone had and experience of them?

I put Falkens (225/45 R17) on the front of my Golf GT TDI to replace the Dunlops which in turn replaced the Bridgestones. That Golf had stupid levels of torque and chewed its way through tyres pretty quickly (the Bridgestones lasted 7000 miles before they were iffy legally).

The Falkens seemed pretty good, not in the same league as grip as the Bridgestones or even the Dunlops, but reasonably quiet and they didn't aquaplane very much.

Definitely worth considering if ultimate performance isn't an issue.

The Alfa is running on FK451's, and so far they seem to be performing just as well as the EagleF1's and S02PP's I've had in the past. Not sure how the treadwear is going to stack up as yet, as they've not been on that long.

The 451 is now being replaced by the FK452, which is reported to be even better. Don't forget that Falken is a subsidiary of Dunlop...

Used Falken's for years in Australia. Excellent in general and reasonably durable in a track environment. Cheap and excellent.

When I got the CLK55 they just had some new Falkens put on the rear.
Now I cannot compare them with anything else yet but the levels of grip in the wet are appalling. If I even think about using the throttle at all they start slipping. I have been using them lately with the traction control off in the hope that I can wear them out quickly so i can put some Michelins on!
I realise that the CLK has quite a bit of grunt but if I even sneeze the back end starts wagging.
Still only a couple of mm left and will be able to change then.
Mac.

Which Falkens are fitted to the CLK? The ZE-512's are nowhere near as good as the 451's

Strange indeed. Never had any more problems with them in the wet than any other high performance tyre. I fear I may have to instigate a severe testing programme this weekend!!

I had some 512s on mine. Not for long though. I got fed up of seeing the little orange light come on every time it rained.

I too have no problems with 451's on the back of a '97 E300TD Estate.
