Fallen 453.

I thought the thread was about some new film or American TV series!

Thanks for that.they are for the front of my sl55.108 quid!!

Not good enough IMHO Michelin PS3s all the way, I don't use anything else.

In my experience, they are superb on something up to say a 3.0, ie a 530 BM, but I think they would be frightening on a 55k.

I have used Falken's on the S-Class for the past six years. Very good, just put a new set of 453's on. The fronts lasted 28,000 miles and the rears 21,000.

Hardly frightening W126. The previous owner gave me a demonstration of the ability of the 55k, accelerating full throttle in 2nd coming out of a bend. The Falken's gripped perfectly and they give me the confidence to drive far closer to the limit than I would have tried before.

Why do you say they would be frightening?

Its very easy to get into the habit of assuming premium price tyres are the very best available. The leading yearly reviews tests show that sometimes this simply is not the case.

Ive used Falken in the past and found them to be a very good tyres. Ive used Uniroyal Rainsport 3's for my last couple of sets and have been very impressed with their performance.

Because I had them on my 530 and whilst they were decent, I got the feeling that if they were on anything much more powerful they may not have fared well, they didn't inspire the same confidence as the conti's I had on previous. I also used 452's and 453's on my 3 series and loved them. When I bought my cls it had falken ziex (914's?) on and they were terrible. Ok in the dry but in the wet, they were scary. I know folk who put 453's on M cars and seem to think they are ok.

I appreciate you have used various Falken tyres and if you honestly think they would be scary on a 55k, then fine. We all have differing views. I have 914's on the rear of mine, and in the wet they do spin up easily but I never push the car in those conditions simply because of the torque.
I am at a disadvantage because I have only ever driven my E55 with Falken's, so have nothing to compare them to.
Maybe I should try the Michelin Pilot Sport3,s next time. I hear they are good.

Had Falkens on a M3 years back & they were fine, when time came to renew
I had Vredestein Ultrac as they were on offer at the time, excellent tyres.

Had them on 911 instead of the "N" rated tyres = better! Also on my TVR,
when the C32 needs them (soon) I shall have Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta fitted, ususaly a fair price for a relatively long lasting tyre with good all round grip imo:D

Not what I expected from this thread. From the title, I thought it would be a youtube link to some sort of Ferrari that had gone off a cliff....

Back to the tyres.... I have Pilot Sports on me E55K, and they seem pretty good, but I don't drive the car hard much. ChrisA, running more than 700 bhp in his 55K CLS, rates Goodyear F1s, particularly in the wet, and considers the Michelins to be good in the dry but less so in the wet.

Had Falkens on my 203. Ok'ish fine the dry but nothing special in the wet. I wouldn't entertain them on the CLS55

I do have Michelin PSS on the CL. The 453's are fine on the S-Class.

Had Falken 452's on my 530i and M5 and they were absolutely fine. I swapped to Goodyear Eagle F1's on the M5 and they were excellent.

Wouldn't worry about having them on my SL55 but would prefer to spend a bit more for a better tyre.

cheers
