Just been looking through the Haynes manual as my fan doesn't engage on my 190e 2.6 (no aircon) when the temperature reaches 100 degrees and have a couple of questions that I hope somebody can help me with.

There appears to be reference in the manual to two sensors in a similar location, one for the temperature gauge and the other a coolant temperature sensor. Which of these is the one that operates the switch for engaging the fan, as I've read that some are combined (gauge & coolant sensor)?

Also, my OVP appears to be up the spout as I'm getting intermittant ABS light, difficult starting, no tachometer :( ......could this have an influence over the switch for the fan?

Thanks in advance :)

The 2.6 (M103) has a viscous fan coupling not the electromagnetic fan clutch that the four cylinder engines use (M102), so doesn't click in like the M102's.

The viscous coupling may need replacing. i'm not sure how you go about testing it though.

Have you checked the fuse on the top of the OVP? The OVP has no control over the fan on the M103.

Ah, ok. I did try getting my hand in to get the fuse out but it was a bit awkward and I couldn't get enough force to pull it out . I'll have another go this weekend to see if I can wiggle it out.

So, it could be that viscous coupling is not working properly, is this tricky to sort (expensive?)
