following on from sportcouperich's thread on buying a 5 series.

if you had a hypothetical budget of £25k, what car/cars would you buy?

I'll start:

2ndhandLotus Elise for weekend fun
an older Merc W124/W202 for daily work and commute.

anything left over, spend it on tyres and track days for the Elise

R129 SL600/SL60 AMG (with all the options/extras)

£25k? Hmmm...

C43/E55 AMG and a Skyline GTR32 for me.

Any money left over and I might consider trying to shoe-horn the motor from a E300TD into the C250, just because...

Completely standard Nissan Skyline R33 GTR and a C43 in mint condition.

Other option would be a 190e Evolution 2 (if I could get one for that much).

Hard to go past the M5 though.

1995 Bentley Turbo R Active Ride / 150K-miler M-B E300 TD est.

c55 w202 - there is one knocking about and god damn that car must be fast.
Or.. E55 (12-15k) and a bmw m roadster.. lots of fun!!

But.. M5... sold!

Earlyish Honda NSX (with some haggling  )

300 ce 24v or E320 coupe ...... (with some more haggling)

my dream car Rolls Royce silver shadow mkII
and rest of money to run it

1) SL60 AMG
2) BMW M3 Coupe
3) Ferrari 348
4) Ariel Atom
5) Any road legal Radical

4 of those new little Toyota Aygos - anybody for 2 a side football :D

In what role?

For a flying machine the Nissan Skyline
Soft top would be an SL
Executive car???
Bentley, Rolls or the a 320CDI S-class will just squeeze into the budget.

Would I buy any of these in lieu of what I have?

Nope.

My vehicle is perfect for the role I want. All of the above are impracticle for the tasks that are performed by our E-class estate. ;) ;)

A 993 shaped Porshe 911 Carerra 4 cabriolet. Preferably a dark metallic colour, with all the options, a full service history, not more than 50k miles, and with my wife inside ;-)

Almost! It's almost perfect...it's just missing the wife sitting inside ;-)

Unfortunately I can't afford it right now :-( But one day I will be buying me a 911 to fall in love with!

£25k?

Well....

450 Vauxhall Chavaliers (which I would park in Bus Lanes)

or

400 V8 Range Rovers (Which I would park outside Greenpeace HQ) (Do they have a Car Park alongside the wigwam?)

or

475 Yugos (might have to import a few to achieve this...) and park them alongside speed cameras (I'd paint them yellow to keep it all safe).

or

200 BMW 3 Series which I'd park in Motorway Services with their indicators on (just to show they do work).

(Volume of each model based on the selling / scrap price of cars that have passed through my hands....)

:bannana:

PS

In reality, I bought several 3 yr old Mercedes from Mercedes Finance, selling after 3 months and buying another. At the end of 12 months I'd have enjoyed 12 months of depreciation-free motoring and be wondering what to spend my £30k budget on... :) (Don't believe it can be done? GOOD! You keep me in cheap motors!!!)
