Hi all,

At the Essex GTG we managed to get a free checkover of our cars and they connected our cars to Star`Diagnostics. They pulled up a few fault codes for my car and was wondering if anybody knows what these are and if they are serious that I should take them to a garage to investigate further.

Unfortunely the technician could not elaborate further unless I booked the car in for full tests.

P0170-022 Mixture formation "part load for right Bank Cylinders"
P0173-133 Mixture formation "part load for left bank Cylinders"
P0170-023 Idle Speed right bank Cylinders
P0173-134 Idle Speed Left Bank Cylinders

P0150-130 Left O2 Sensor before TWC
P0130-015 Right O2 Sensor before TWC

P0300-080 Misfiring damages TWC
P0305-082 Misfire of cylinder 5
P0305-087 Misfire of cylinder 7
P0305-085 Misfire of cylinder 6

Does anybody know if these issues are serious???

I noticed lately that when accelerating the car would just rev first to about 3000rpm and nothing would happen and then suddenly it would take off.

I did change the MAS about 2 months ago and is it possible that I might have got a faulty one, which is causing the above issues??

Could it be something to do with My CATs and exhaust as well as theres a little rattling underneath the car. I think the centre box is a bit loose.

Any help appreciated

The misfiring isn't a good sign, as it says this damages the TWC (three way cats).
Start with plugs then coils and MAF.

If the cat is rattling it could be falling apart which can cause it to spit back and score the bores so don't leave it.

Dieselman,

Thanks for that. I am booking in the car to the garage for Monday next week.

That is an air mass problem!!!!!

I would bet £100 on it

They are probably still there after you changed the air mass before

I changed the MAS about 2 months ago, but went the wrong route and got a non branded one from Eurocarparts. I guess I should have got an OEM one.

Lesson learnt!! Well I have booked it into the garage for Monday so see what they say after they run all the tests.

Just for my piece of mind. I cant afford any huge engine bills as the first child is coming along!

Get a bosch one from euro and tell them the other one went faulty already. They are quite good at returns.

Save your ££ and fit it yourself.

Thanks for that. Do you think after I fit the new MAS I should just get it hooked up to star just to check it again?. Last thing I want is the engine blowing up on me or the cats being damaged or something by the incorrect fuel mixture.

Fit the air mass and have the codes cleared. Then drive it to see the result.

Thanks C55.

Rung Eurocarparts and they sending me out a Bosch one, and will give me a refund fo the faulty unit.
I will fit the new MAS in the weekend then take it down to the garage and ask them to run a diagnostics, to see if any problems still occur with the new MAS.

Hey good luck with your new garage also!

AFTER you have the new MAF installed, make sure to reset/clear your codes and then drive it a while before you go into the shop. Some parts store chains let you borrow a code reader that can reset your codes. Otherwise you can disconnect your battery for 10 minutes but then you will have to reset your radio with its code and probably resync your windows and sunroof (see the owner's manual for instructions).

Battery disconnect for 60 mins didn't clear fault codes on my R129 relating to gearbox and roof - I had to get them removed at a garage.

Thanks Bill and Mr Chips. I think I will just leave that technical electric stuff to the garage.

C55 you were right!!!!.

Took the car to the dealership this morning (Been there 2 weeks in a row now as I was there for last weeks Essex GTG). Connected to Star and all the codes had been cleared from the previous week health check. So the fault codes showing were from the last service I had and were not cleared.
Asked the technician to clear any other, put in the new MAS and took it for a drive down the road.

Car is like a rocket now with the new MAS and the sprintbooster!!!
Went back to garage and connected to Star and no fault codes at all.

Problem solved.......thanks for your help/advice!:)
