Where is diagnostic plug on 1999 w202 c200 petrol auto - and does it need a Star system or will a Snap on type diagnostic show faults and causes of ABS/bas lights being lit and reason gearbox wont change from 3 to 4

and yes a snap on one will do had mine checked with a snap on reader

Still a bit concerned re gearbox issues Car only done 56k miles - Firstly noticed putting in reverse box didnt engage untill pushing lever slightly forward and then ok then noticed car changes to 3rd and stays there not changing to 4th although when mechanic took on test drive it did change to 4 no problem but on return run again got to 3rd but didnt change up to 4 . Was hoping the brake light switch being changed might have sorted the glitch but replacing that didnt even remove dash lights ABS/BAS so probably nothing wrong with brake light switch to start with.So need a reader firstly to find why dash lights on and if gearbox problem will show - Could get fluid changed but changing problem could still be present if something else causing fault.

when i had my car checked were it would not change gear and when i put it in revers i could not put it straight in to drive i had to put in park first then in to drive
the snap on reader came up with gear selector once changed all ok

Now sorted - Indie replaced driveshaft rather than just change pick up ring re speed sensor . That ring was the cause of several problems . ABS/BAS lights on dash and gearbox not changing as it should - speed sensor not sending correct messages to cars brains .
