Hey guys.

Wonder if you can help. My air con hasn't been working for a 6+ months now. So I decided to get it re gassed today at ATS. Can't fault the service. But the air con still doesn't work. Now the previous results off the testing machine showed I had 300gm out of the 595gm. It showed no leaks and everything was in place and good working order. And the last time it was gassed was when brought in 2007. So I assume it can't have a leak, otherwise it'd be completely empty being 9 years old?

So does anyone know why it's not working? The light comes on as it should, the blowers work fine and the car was diagnosticed to remove any faults and to re set the air con (didn't showing anything and had the reset done).

Also could it be a fuse? Or condenser? Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Ash

The system should be used regularly, even in winter (just with the temperature set higher, of course) to keep it in tip top working condition. If there have been long periods of inactivity combined with eight years between gas change, I would suggest you visit an independent MB repairer…it could be a whole host of things that would not necessarily throw up a fault code.

Yeah. For future reference I will always use the air con now. I only brought the car 6 months ago so didn't have much control over the previous owners abuse to the car. I was debating whether to put it into mb, but at the same time didn't want to be ripped off for a new condenser at £400+ when it could be something simple............ I was hoping :)

Get a proper automotive A/C engineer to have a look at it.
May seem more expensive but they will have the knowledge to diagnose it properly and fix it.

You need an independent specialist, not MB stealership, I would suggest, because the former relies on their reputation.

The type of machine used during regassing measures for leaks by creating a vacuum, which may appear satisfactory but does not prove the seals are not still leaking under pressure. Don't discount a leak yet as you appear to have lost 50% of your refridgerant. I suspect another problem is stopping it working though. Personally, I leave the air con on permanently to avoid problems through lack of use.

Yeah I agree Russ, from now on I will do that. It's a strange situation with a/c as people begrudge using it to save fuel, but if you don't use it you risk the chance of it breaking down like mine. Thanks for the advice guys, going to get it booked in next week!! Thanks :thumb:

Mine is also on permanently. Dries the air when raining and reduces misting on the screens. I need to regas every 2 years or so to keep it in tip top condition.

If the AC has tripped out, it may need resetting. Sometimes can be done on the control panel, sometimes require STAR, depending on equipment and model.
