2003 W163 ML350 With LPG Conversion
Hello everyone, this is my first attempt at a post/thread, so please advise if I'm doing anything wrong

My cruise control will not work on my w163 ML350.
My brake lights work, I don't have any other lights showing (ESP,ATS etc). Battery seems to be ok. Can only think that the switch/lever is faulty. Can anybody help??

Regards David

Hi,
I have a similar issue on my 43, does your speed limiter function work? I don,t think it will, same as mine, I got my codes read and have a faulty signal coming from my front RH speed/wheel sensor. You really need to get the codes read on a diagnostic reader, but you could try removing each sensor giving them a clean, and ensure the reluctor rings (the rings which the sensors are against) are clean

What size are your tyres, and are they all the same size?

There should be an amber light (for the speed limiter) on the same stalk which should illuminate when you push the stalk along it's axis (towards the steering column). Does it light up when you push it?

I've just had new discs and pads fitted, so I can ask the guy who did it (know and trust him) if he noticed anything re the sensors. Just had an A service and Mercedes want £50.00 to do a more indept investigation!!
Thanks for the info I'll keep you informed.

No it does not work at any speed.
When I start the car the lim light comes on for a few seconds then goes off (as do all the other lights on the dash) and regardless of the position of the switch (in for cruise or out for speed limit), it will not come on again. I've had a look for a fuse and had the top cover off the steering wheel, the switch seems ok.
Thanks again for your interest.

The tyres are all the sames size, 275/55/R17 V109.
Two part worn with about 5mm on the back and two brand new on the front.
As I said in my other reply, the light on the cruise switch does not come on in any position. I can only think it's a faulty switch or something to do with the brake sensors, which I'll have checked.

Are there any photos of the sensors available? This will help when I'm checking.

Hi Andy 27168, just had it confirmrd that the sensors are all in place and working fine.
The guy who has looked after my cars for 15 years explained that the lights on the dash would be on if they were not connected correctly.
I'm taking it to a local indi service centre who will connect it up to the computer and hopefully advise me of the problem. I think it is the control lever, will advise you all of the out come.
Thanks again for your help, I'm sure I'll need your help in the future.

Problem Solved!!!!!!

After several inspections and quotations to fix the cruise control, I've found the problem and fixed it myself!!

The local MB dealer wanted £500.00 for parts and labour!!

I removed the covers from around the steering column and was attempting to remover the cruise control lever/switch, when I noticed that there was no electrical connection from the switch to the electrical system of the car.

On the back of the lever/switch is a female socket with eight mail pins (it faces away from the driver toward the engine). I then discovered a male plug that matched the socket on the switch at end of a very shot lead under the steering wheel. This lead had got stuck/twisted around other wires and after I de-tangled it and plugged it in to the back of the lever/switch BINGO !!:bannana::bannana::bannana::bannana:

I reassembled the covers etc and cruise control system is working fine.

I hope this helps anyone with the same issue.

David
