Hi everyone,

The indicator for empty window washer shows that it is empty though it is not.

My local Mercedes dealer says it may be that I should use some special washer fluid for the sensor to work. He did not know which.
Have anybody heard of something like this?

You need to find a new Mercedes dealer, because that's complete bull manure. All you need is for the liquid to be conductive enough to complete the circuit between the 2 contacts on the sensor, pretty much all washer fluid (and any other number of liquids) will do that.

Thank you for your reply.
That’s what I thought, but it’s probably the point the Mercedes guy was trying to make.

I may have refilled the washer tank with some fluid without that conductive capability. I wonder if one can read that in the specs of the fluid, do you know?

Unless you're putting pure alcohol into the tank, I would doubt it. Certainly anything that is diluted with water would be fine.

The "special fluid" is a flat out lie by your dealer. If the car required it as they have claimed, they should be able to provide said specifications. More likely is that the sensor or associated wiring has failed leaving the circuit permanently open.

Thanks. Have a nice week-end.
