As the title suggests, what are some of your favourite lyrics?
First one for me-' I broke into the palace, with a sponge and a rusty spanner, she said 'I know you and you cannot sing' I said that's nothing, you should here me play piano' by The Smiths- The queen is dead.

Are you sure you want to do this Sweetpea?

My favourite lyrics are the whole kit and kaboodle..they're very apt with respect to both me and my late parents.

Seems like it was yesterday when I saw your face
You told me how proud you were, but I walked away
If only I knew what I know today, ooh, ooh

I would hold you in my arms, I would take the pain away
Thank you for all you've done, forgive all your mistakes
There's nothing I wouldn't do to hear your voice again
Sometimes I wanna call you but I know you won't be there

Oh, I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you

Some days I feel broke inside but I won't admit
Sometimes I just wanna hide 'cause it's you I miss
And it's so hard to say goodbye when it comes to this, ooh

Would you tell me I was wrong? Would you help me understand?
Are you looking down upon me? Are you proud of who I am?
There's nothing I wouldn't do to have just one more chance
To look into your eyes and see you looking back

Oh, I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself, oh

If I had just one more day
I would tell you how much that I've missed you
Since you've been away

Oh, it's dangerous
It's so out of line
To try and turn back time

I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself
By hurting you

This one could run and run...

Grandaddy's So you'll aim toward the sky:
So you'll aim toward the sky
And you'll rise high today
Fly away, Far away
Far from pain

Mike & the Mechanics' The Living Years:
Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

I know that I'm a prisoner
To all my father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thoughts
Stilted conversations
I'm afraid that's all we've got

You say you just don't see it
He says it's perfect sense
You just can't get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talkin' in defence

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It's the bitterness that lasts

So don't yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different date
And if you don't give up, and don't give in
You may just be OK

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

I wasn't there that morning
When my father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say

I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

Say it loud, say it clear
Say it loud
Don't give up
Don't give in
And don't know what you can do next

Yup, I would think there could be a lot of pages to this one.

Bad Company - Gone, gone, gone.

There will be more..............

I love that Mike & The Mechanics song!
I like it how music can take you back to a certain time or place.
I'm looking forward to everyones choices.

Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
And cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war,
For a lead role in a cage?

As I went home on Sunday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a lad sneaking out the back, a quarter after three.
Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me
Who was that lad sneaking out the back a quarter after three?
Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool,
So drunk you can not see
That was just the tax man that the Queen she sent to me.
Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more
But an Englishman who can last till three I've never seen before

:D

Take a picture of this
The fields are empty, abandoned '59 Chevy
Laying in the back seat listening to Little Willie John
Yea, that's when time stood still
You know, I think I'm gonna go down to Madam X
And let her read my mind
She said "That Voodoo stuff don't do nothing for me."

I'm a man with a clear destination
I'm a man with a broad imagination
You fog the mind, you stir the soul
I can't find, ... no control

Gosh, there are so many...

Turin Brakes' Feeling Oblivion:
Cubscouts are screaming,
Needing ice-creaming and all the pleasures of June
I'm in a parked car.
Flowers seem friendly and people in hall ways feel walls.
Now it is night time maybe we're cruising avoiding the anti-cruise.
Oh I don't really know where we are.

If things get real promise to take me somewhere else,
By the time fear takes me over will we still be rolling and feeling oblivion.

Once in a while the lie in the laughter can burn through a hole in my ears,
Like a man with glasses catching a sunbeam and burning the skin of a kid.
Hypereal fragments disturbing the stagnants of almighty fear.
Well I'll just go under the water.

If things get real promise to take me somewhere else,
By the time fear takes me over will we still be rolling and feeling oblivion.

So don't leave me here on my own.
So don't leave me here on my own.
If things get real promise to take me somewhere else,
By the time fear takes me over will we still be rolling and feeling oblivion.

Radiohead. Fake Plastic Trees

A green plastic watering can
For a fake chinese rubber plant
In the fake plastic earth

That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plans
To get rid of itself

It wears her out, it wears her out
It wears her out, it wears her out

She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns

He used to do surgery
On girls in the eighties
But gravity always wins

And it wears him out, it wears him out
It wears him out, it wears him out

She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My fake plastic love

But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run

And it wears me out, it wears me out
It wears me out, it wears me out

And if I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted
All the time, all the time

I gotta get drunk, I can't stay sober
There's a lot of good people in town
Who gotta hear me holler
See me spend my dollar
And I wouldn't think of letting em down
There's a lot of doctors that tell me
I'd better stop putting it down
But there's more old drunks
Than there are old doctors
So I guess I'd better have another round

Talk all the talk with a poet's style
Tongue like electric, eyes like a child
Buy only wives and the classic cars
Live like a saviour, live like the stars
Talk all the talk with a model's smile
Tongue like electric, eyes like a child
Buy all your highs and the classic cars
Die on the front page, just like the stars

There are so many...

Where are the children we lost not long ago, feel for the Mothers who weep for them. I pray for the Fathers who are standing by their side in their world of pain and suffering

Have you ever seen the look in a hungry child's eyes, they can't eat money or promises. Give them your smile and try holding out your hand, let them know you're there, let them know you're there

Why is it always the ones that we love are the ones that will never come home? Why must all of the bridges we cross take their toll? Always remember the voice in your head speaks to you when you're alone, and it comforts you from the top of your heart to the bottom of your soul

You can swim in a river of tears they cry, for they sleep on the winds of uncertainty. Show us a sign and make us believe again there's no other way, oh, there's no other way...

Why is it always the ones that we love are the ones that will never come home? Why must all of the bridges we cross take their toll? Always remember the voice in your head speaks to you when you're alone, and it comforts you from the top of your heart to the bottom of your soul

Woodstock

Well, maybe it's the time of year
or maybe it's the time of man
And I don't know who I am
But life's for learning.

prince-starfish and coffee

It was 7:45, we were all in line 2 greet the teacher Miss Kathleen
First was Kevin, then came Lucy, third in line was me
All of us were ordinary compared 2 Cynthia Rose
She always stood at the back of the line, a smile beneath her nose
Favorite number was 20, every single day
If U asked her what she had 4 breakfast, this is what she'd say
Come on....

Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam
Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham
If U set your mind free, baby, maybe U'd understand
Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam

Cynthia wore the prettiest dress with different colored socks
Sometimes we wondered if the mates were in her lunch box
Me and Lucy opened it when Cynthia wasn't around
Lucy cried, I almost died, you know what we found....

Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam
Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham
If U set your mind free, baby, maybe U'd understand
Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam

Cynthia had a happy face just like the one she drawed
On every wall in every school
But it's alright, it's for a worthy cause

Go 'head Cynthia keep singing.....

Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam
Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham
If U set your mind free, baby, maybe U'd understand
Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam

Spitting Image's The Chicken Song:

Its the time of year
Now that Spring is in the air
When those two wet gits with their girly curly hair
Make another song for moronic holidays
That nauseate-ate-ate
In a million different ways
From the shores of Spain
To the coast of Southern France
No matter where you hide
You just can't escape this dance

Hold a chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Buy a jumbo jet
And then bury all your clothes
Paint your left knee green
Then extract your wisdom teeth
Form a string quartet
And pretend your name is Keith

Skin yourself alive
Learn to speak Arapahoe
Climb inside a dog
And behead an eskimo
Eat a Renault Four with salami in your ears
Casserole your gran
Disembowel yourself with spears

The disco is vibrating
The sound is loud and grating
Its truly nauseating
Let's do the dance again

Hold a chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Yes you'll hear this song in the holiday discos
And there's no escape in the clubs or in the bars
You would hear this song if you holidayed in Mars

Skin yourself alive
Learn to speak Arapahoe
Climb inside a dog
And behead an eskimo
Now you've heard it once
Your brain will spring a leak
And though you hate this song
You'll be humming it for weeks

Hold a chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Buy a jumbo jet
And then bury all your clothes
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la laaaaaaa

The song that David Gilmour wishes he had written.

Dirty old river, must you keep rolling
Flowing into the night
People so busy, makes me feel dizzy
Taxi light shines so bright

But I don't need no friends
As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset
I am in paradise

Every day I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunset's fine

Terry meets Julie, Waterloo Station
Every Friday night
But I am so lazy, don't want to wander
I stay at home at night

But I don't feel afraid
As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset
I am in paradise

Every day I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunset's fine

Millions of people swarming like flies 'round Waterloo underground
But Terry and Julie cross over the river
Where they feel safe and sound

And the don't need no friends
As long as they gaze on Waterloo sunset
They are in paradise
Waterloo sunset's fine

Good grief, what a depressing bunch of lyrics! were you all maudlin and in your cups last night or what?!!!

Only takes one match to burn A thousand trees
