Brace yourselves, petrolheads – A new series of Fifth Gear will screech into view on Five on Thursday 3 June at 7.30pm. The 17th series of the show will see Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson, Jason Plato and Jonny Smith return to your screens. Funnily enough the "bearded wonder" ex CAR magazine TOM FORD is not mentioned in the new line up. I thought he was OK?

I know he writes for top gear mag and website. Maybe he pulled out due to a conflict of interests, or maybe he was asked to. Either way I liked him though I can't say he was the most valuable member of the team. Then again neither is Jonny smith. Didn't he used to write for MaxPower mag?

Didn't they axe Fifth Gear?? Thought there was a thread about it not so long ago...:dk:

IIRC, Tom Ford was contributing to TG magasine before he began presenting on Fifth Gear, so I can't see why they would have asking him to leave.

I'm pretty certain he has a young family, so maybe that would a reason.

Anyway, I hope he hasn't gone!

+1.
While they weren't of any particularly real value to the show I still enjoyed watching them. Good to know Jonny is still in, it would be a shame about Tom.

I have never really got into watching Fifth Gear especially after they wrecked a perfectly sound W124 Estate for a stunningly uninteresting feature. Tom Ford is about the only interesting one on the programme.

It should be a criminal offense to take a baseball bat to a w124 estate.
I saw that episode and I to this day cannot understand "why" they would want to do such a thing.

Maybe you are thinking of the demise of the 4car website??

No, pretty sure I'm not going senile - and I'm only on the first glass of wine of the evening so far.... link below says it was indeed canned, a search on Google also reveals lots of other forums picked up the fifth gear axed story...

But if it's back I for one am glad - it's a definate second fiddle to Top Gear as entertainment but has it's place, particularly as they often give away cars, and I am naive enough to enter the competitions...

I suppose it's possible this is the final series and there will be no more :( -possibly why Tom Ford and the tall thin one Tim Shaw-- he lately of Kerrang magazine :crazy:and Man in a Box fame  are no longer there- having jumped ship before it went down. Still its not over till the fat lady sings or in the case of VBH till the "babe squeaks";)

I find watching Tiff at the wheel very interesting. Preferably if on track/airfield

Must just be me who thinks Tom Ford and his sidekick are absolutely useless then!!
Those 2 really get on my nerves, as does Richard Hammond.
I would watch 5th gear if those 2 tools weren't on it.

I read on tinternet, that it was definitely scrapped after the last series, but following a rethink, it has been brought back refreshed, and Tom is not one of the team this time, explanation was given, just can't remember what it was though.

Because he is rubbish!!

+2 for Hamster - someone obviously told him he was cute so he grew his hair, put highlights in and gives big doe eyes at the camera at every opportunity. I used to like him when he was normal; now he is almost the most irritating person on TV

Whatever people think of the presenters its a program about motoring and cars on a mainstream terrestrial channel and as such it should be welcome.:thumb: One tiny light in the infinite black of mind numbing programmes about ----chefs and cooking, buying/ knocking down/building/decorating houses in the UK and abroad, "talent" shows choosing west end musical/pop music stars with a 6 month sell by date  and don't get me started on quiz shows --------zzzzzzzzzzzzz-----oh sorry I nodded off for a moment there just thinking about them.
