Last night I went to top up my Diesel E220 (08 W211) and the pump kept shutting off due to the fule blowing back. left it a couple of secs to try again and I could hear the fuel gurgling back down the filler. I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago at the same garage (different pump). Topped up last Monday, again at the same garage, no problem. The only thing common to both times I have had the problem, is that the boot was fully loaded (guitar amp/PA speaker/guitar/other Paraphernalia) and a PA speaker on the back seat. Probably the whole lot weighs in as much as an adult (60Kg), so not excessive and spread across the car. I am wondering if the extra load is trapping a breather pipe somewhere?

I have had the same problem but only at the local Shell station. In the first couple of weeks of ownership I thought something was wrong with the car but having filled at several other places, with no problem, now wondering if its their pumps. I wonder, if the pumps deliver fuel at a high pressure would it not allow the air to escape from the tank, but I would assume that, in this health and safety world, there would have to be a safe maximum pressure for fuel delivery. In short  I dont know :dk: but your not on your own :D.

Interesting you should say that Fizzer, as this is also a Shell station that has just be through a major refurb, including new pumps! trouble is it is the cheapest in the area (1.199 per litle if you can call that cheap, maybe least expensive is the proper term!:))
But last Monday didn't have a problem but again I think I was using a different pump.
