Back in 2015 we cancelled a C Class factory order due to ill health. It was the car I'd always wanted so I've been pining ever since. The last 6-8 weeks has seen me on AT daily repeating the same (obsessive?) search. I looked at 4 Series Grand Coupes (430d/435d/435i/440i) but l just couldn't get to like the outdated interior. Also looked at A4 Avant and A5 Sportback but wanted the latest shape and unfortunately to far out of budget for us.

C Class Criteria was:
  • Estate Auto.
  • Premium Plus pack.
  • Night Pack.
  • 360 degree camera.
  • ILS.
  • Black Ash trim.
Colour, engine and fuel was irrelevant.

We found the odd one or 2 within budget but every time I enquired they were either sold or reserved. (I'm guessing some dealers keep their add on AT to get you to make contact even if the car is sold so they can get your details to offer alternatives?). Anyhow, last week we spotted one at MB of Southampton that included all our Wishlist options and more including Black Leather upgrade, lane keep assist, blind spot alert, adaptive cruise and steering assist. It was a few grand over budget but being Mercedes used Approved we decided to buy.

They wanted £650inc vat to deliver up to Scotland so I intended to buy a train ticket to collect. The very same day I texted a work friend to ask if he could give me a few days help that week. He replayed saying sorry but he was away for the week visiting his Granddad in................. Southampton!!!!! (yes I'm a lucky wee sod) I told him about the car and the dealership. He said it was just a 10 minute car journey from where he was. He offered to drive it home for me with his wife following in their car. It arrived last Sunday evening at 9:45pm. I treated him for the favour and saved a load of money and time. Unfortunately I've had a really busy time at work lately so only driven it twice. Needless to say we are over the moon with it. Its a 2017 C300h in metallic diamond white. I think it looks awesome with the night pack. I know I'm in the minority but I even like the iPad screen that so many people seem to hate. Much more modern looking than the integrated screen in the previous model IMO.

Few pics below. I'm looking forward to giving it a bl00dy good clean. Maybe next weekend when I have more time. (Work is mad busy right now)

The only spanner in the works is a friend did an MOT history check and an advisory on its MOT a few weeks ago is 'Offside front alloy has been welded'. I phoned the salesman at Southampton and he was very dismissive of my concerns (He already knew about the weld). I requested that they arrange a replacement alloy to be fitted at MB in Carlisle but it was a very grim 'NO'. I told him I was disappointed that a Used Approved car would have been handed over with a welded alloy and I would be pursuing the matter with MBCS. (Email has been sent). Shame that it's tarnished the experience somewhat but I'm hopeful that I'll get somewhere with the complaint.

Looks very nice, enjoy.

I too would not be happy with the Alloy.
I'd be pushing for a replacement.

A mate who got the Audi a while back that ended up with dodgy tyres got a financial contribution towards his new tyres and that was from a specialist car dealer so i'd expect more from Mercedes.

Cracking motor pal!

Lovely looking car. I keep looking at estates now myself.
How many tools can you get in the back?

Are you planning on installing a Panamericana grille?

I had a similar issue with an alloy on a car purchase from Portsmouth. No joy at first until a reminded the sakeman that I would return the car under the distance selling regs. He soon changed his mind and I went to my local MB for the new wheel.
Nice car by the way

This is the correct approach. Put a gun to his head.

Well done Ant it looks brilliant.

The difference in my case Steve being it'd cost me more to return the car to Southampton for a refund (which is still an option) than the price of a new alloy wheel?

Here's one.
