E55K Estate - Will be missed
I honestly felt sorry for the seller. Very nice chap. Had the car over 4yrs and kept very good care of it. Sitting in his drive now is a full fat RR, which he's already not pleased with. I think he realised he never should of sold the E55 ! So I paid him and left sharpish :)

Had a good two hour drive home through a/b/motorway. Car performed perfectly. Total grandad when pottering in traffic, real angry when poked in the direction of an open motorway. I can now see why these old AMG's are popular !

Only annoying thing so far is the bloody Distronic lever right next to indicator stalk, caught me out a few times, wondered what the hell was going on when it wouldn't let me accelerate !

Will give it a few weeks to settle in then seriously considering some light touches like SC pulley/HE/Pump/LSD to make it that extra bit naughty

Very nice welcome to the 55 club, enjoy your new beast, don't forget ultra stealth mode when you pop out for a spin, that's your pipe and slippers:devil:

Fab - let's see some more photos.
Distronic is rare on an E and it's a great feature.

Well done, distronic is a great option, when you get used to it you will love it!

+1 :thumb:

Looks good

I love distronic, I actually turned down 2 W212 E63's because they didn't have distronic.

Thanks guys :)

Its got some nice options for sure, the dynamic/pulse seats are fun and the screen in the rear will shut the kids up ;-).

The funniest and most liked 'gadget' my boy likes is the boot , press a button and the boot opens, press another and out pops a loading tray !

Will get some more pics up soon ..

Nice - it clearly had lots of option boxes ticked:thumb:

Mine hasn't got the rear load sliding feature or distronic. I guess if you haven't got it you won't miss it! One thing though is I don't think I could consider a car again without 'keyless go', how lazy is that!

I love my 55 estate:D

did he say why wasn't he happy with the 'full fat RR' out of interest?

Not in detail, apart from it wasn't an E55, mainly engine/feel I think. Anyone going from super saloon to RR will have to do a lot of re-adjusting I'd imagine.
I've always wanted a RR but always bottle it last minute as I think it would be a step to far in size.

I'm sure it would need some adjustments but in many 'good' ways…..at least in my imagination which is about as close as I'll ever get to Phantom ownership.

Never mind, his loss is very much your gain. A very elegant car indeed.

Ive had a go in a few rangerovers including the new supercharger. And i honestly think they are overpriced sh..ite. i felt like i was driving my front room, very rolly polly. The e55 would quite easily win me over. But as they say each to their own. I suppose these big dopy overpriced machines are designed for another purpose.. my next door neighbour had a 2104 rr supercharger sport on demo and it moved well for a big tank but i think they are way over hyped........ but hey its just my opinion..

I have both and they are very different and both awesome

Mine is a v8 4.4tdv8 it's fast enough to keep up with a v8 m3 once under way. The e55 is miles faster.

Enjoy the e55. It's brilliant but thirsty!

Cracking looking car im also new to the e55k club and I love mine few niggles but not put me of it yet :)

What plate RR are you talking?

I've driven an 08 plate full fat TDV8 and there isn't a cat in hells chance it would keep up with a 420BHP V8 M3 - unless the M3 is defective...

+1. I've drag raced one up the slip onto the M27. It's a whisker faster than my S320 diesel! Although I imagine at autobahn speeds above 70 the S class would leave it.

Both wrong - 50 to 90 miles an hour, it was neck and neck. Seriously.
320 hp, and 520 ft/lb of torque vs 420hp and 350ft/lb.
you confuse hp with torque. I'm also not convinced that the v8 m3 would have much advantage over a e320 Cdi for the same reason. Once centrifugal force / weight is not an impediment - like it is from a standing start/acceleration , torque is as important as horse power.
Also, my RR is an 8 speed auto, whereas to 08 was the 3.6ltr with 6 gears.
When he nailed it in the m3 and I carpeted the accelerator in the RR, the RR dropped 4 gears on kick down and I stayed on his bumper until I backed off at 90.
Finally, the m3 driver had a manual.
The m3 driver was one of my mates and trust me, he was pretty surprised too. What pis$ed him off was the m3 was doing 12 mpg, whereas the RR was doing 19mpg!
Not that I care about it, but If you don't believe me, buy a 4.4 tdv8 range rover and find a congested a-road (or French autoroute) and a hapless m3 driver....
You will smile a lot!
