So it's this time of year again, with about a month to go.
I'm currently with Tesco, and their renewal was £870. I got it down to £804 just by phoning and complaining a little. Obviously this is still too high.
About me and the car: - will be 28 by then, 2 NCB, no fault claims (one non-fault), no points or convictions, full EU licence for 7 years (didn't need a car before). The car is bog standard Seat Toledo '06 1.9TDI Stylance. Parking on road; up to 10k a year; I am doing research at the university for a PhD (so technically I'm a student but in practice this is 99% like a real day time job). My postcode seems to be OK, a rather safe residential area
I have some thoughts where to go:
* Exchange for UK licence (Tesco confirmed they wouldn't care about it though - would others?)
* REMAP my car and look for specialist insurer. I'm not sure where this would get me. Hopefully I'd get a few more MPG at least
* Use a broker. Which one?
* Find a female 'friend' who wouldn't mind driving my car once every year, so to speak
* I don't think adding my dad to the policy would make a positive change (some points and non-fault claims)
* ANYTHING ELSE?
