Car
Seat Toledo III 1.9TDI
So it's this time of year again, with about a month to go.
I'm currently with Tesco, and their renewal was £870. I got it down to £804 just by phoning and complaining a little. Obviously this is still too high.

About me and the car: - will be 28 by then, 2 NCB, no fault claims (one non-fault), no points or convictions, full EU licence for 7 years (didn't need a car before). The car is bog standard Seat Toledo '06 1.9TDI Stylance. Parking on road; up to 10k a year; I am doing research at the university for a PhD (so technically I'm a student but in practice this is 99% like a real day time job). My postcode seems to be OK, a rather safe residential area

I have some thoughts where to go:
* Exchange for UK licence (Tesco confirmed they wouldn't care about it though - would others?)
* REMAP my car and look for specialist insurer. I'm not sure where this would get me. Hopefully I'd get a few more MPG at least
* Use a broker. Which one?
* Find a female 'friend' who wouldn't mind driving my car once every year, so to speak
* I don't think adding my dad to the policy would make a positive change (some points and non-fault claims)
* ANYTHING ELSE?

Dont know about your insurance i am afraid but i think your photography is stunning.

Grrrr £760 is my current cheapest.

Would you say that it is reasonable to say that I am 'Research Scientist' as this is all I do everyday despite the 'student' label which does seem to have extremely negative effect on my premiums? At the end of the day I am working at the faculty of science, and my degree is awarded for research as opposed to taught courses.

Are you in receipt of a grant or are you on a salary might be the crucial question? Its statistical evidence on groups rather than individuals that sets premiums as far as the insurance companies are concerned although your age should help.

I am on grant income... as opposed to the regular students that pay for their taught course.

There is another similar question, and the answer to that is simply 'in full time education' so the combination of both seems reasonable, doesn't it?

You don't have to convince me mate- just the insurance company. However a good broker with a detailed knowledge of the specialist insurance market may be able to find a "niche" for you.:dk:
