Hi all.

I'm having a lot of trouble with Firefox 4. Previously on 3.6.17, and no issues at all, the upgrade is terrible!

The pages load faster than 3.6, and 'in flight' it seems better than before.

However.

I just can't live with the 5 or 6 minutes it will take on shutdown to stop messing about. If I close it down, the task manager logs several minutes of activity on firefox.exe, the CPU load is way up, the disc access is constant and I can barely do anything until everything finally stops. As a final insult, when I use CrapCleaner to get rid of any unwanted files, that spends another few minutes clearing out the Firefox cache.

What the hell is it doing? It's terrible!

In an attempt to improve matters, I reverted to 3.6.17, and found everything went back to normal - except for one thing. AdBlockPlus is now crippled. I can't upgrade it (update fails to install), uninstall it (it just won't), or do anything with it. It does not work either.

In another desperate attempt to solve the problem once and for all, I have installed Opera, as I get on with that fine on my phone.

However I really want it to import all of my Firefox settings, passwords, etc before I can feel confident with it. It would be a lot of work to have to go through every login and password for every site I have that for.

Does anyone know of how to import all of this into Opera from Firefox?

If the answer to that is 'no', does anyone know how to get Firefox/AdBlockPlus to work properly?

Many thanks in advance!

I had the same problem installing Firefox 4.0. Silly me did it twice (hoping the second time it would work - it didn't) and both times had to backtrack and use 3.5 or 3.6. Lost all my passwords in the process. Very annoying. I keep getting reminders to upgrade, which I now ignore.

Its crap! Just trying to keep ahead of the opposition=BIG mistake. Best to stick with the older version till they get it sorted out in Firefox 5.0!

Interesting. I hadn't had any earlier versions but installed FF4 a few weeks ago. It does not appear to hamper shut-down on my machine.

Doesn't help you much, but I thought I'd just post my experience.

Which OS are you guys using?

I'm using XP and having no problems with FF4.

I'm using Windows 7 and it will not shut down due to Firefox, has to be forced manually.

I have being using FF4 since its release with no issues. Only bug bear I have it is that when you right click a link they have moved the "open in new tab" and "open in new window" around and I keep clicking the wrong one...it has moved after 6+ years of use :wallbash: anyway that was soon sorted by hacking the menu's.

I'm using FF4, updated from previous versions - no problem at all in normal speed shut down (Win7)

I'm on XP. I have put FF4 back on again, and AdBlock is now back in action.

I have not yet tried to close FF so I don't know if it is still buggering about when I do that.

Just to clarify the issue, I never had any problems shutting the machine down, only shutting FF itself down.

Perhaps if it is still messing about, I will have to uninstall AdBlock first, then revert FF back to 3.6. Hopefully that will cure that issue and I will be back to where I started, which would be progress in this case.

Can't you just click down once on your wheel to open in a new tab?

i have firefox 4 & safari installed so you can have 2 separate ebay accounts open at once as you cant do that with firefox & explorer for some reason (used to be able to)

and using a proxy server stops ebay displaying the screen stuff correctly

I've got the new firefox with win XP. Got recent problems with downloading - for example today I was trying to download a 12.31mb .pdf brochure and the download gets stuck, usually at 5.58mb. Try to re-load, but it always gets stuck. If I scroll through the brochure, when I get to the extent of the pages loaded so far, firefox freezes completely.
I've tried restarting firefox in safe mode, but no difference.
