Hi folks, I've been lurking around mbclub looking for advice on a merc to buy for years now. After definitely deciding on a W124 E-series I was offered a 1997 W210 E300 td Estate with 165,000 on the clock for £1300. After spotting a few cosmetic issues and because the seller's a friend of a friend (plus the fact that I didn't have £1300 spare), I managed to take her away for £850. Sweet. The Joy: It's been a joyous couple of weeks getting to know her. Long trips are a dream as you get out the other end feeling like you're getting out of your armchair to make some tea... She's got a creaky spring at the back and doesn't like starting when low on fuel and not pointed downhill. The drive however is superb. The Pain: Yesterday morning I didn't make it to work as she wouldn't start. I had noticed a small fuel leak and the smell of diesel before but had put it to the back of my mind as I'm really busy at the moment. Also had noticed a large air bubble in between pre-heater and prefilter. Thanks to ParrotOfDoom I've now got a good idea of what the problem is (Delivery valve leak on the IP). However, in the process of trying to start her yesterday and charging over-night I've killed the battery. (Costco £107 for a Bosch replacement). You guys weren't kidding when you said there'd be happy driving ahead but the occasional financial drain! Still, I'm happy because I'll be getting to know her better. Here's looking forward to the next problem!
