First rear lights, and now alarm gremlins....

I have had an ongoing rear light fail/substitute light used, which even after changing all bulbs on both sides, the car (CLK 270) still refuses to acknowledge that the bulbs are okay, but as the substitutes work I'm generally okay with things. However this week things have taken a new annoying turn, 5 minutes after parking the car the alarm starts acting up, the hazards start flashing in double time, and when I try to clear it by blipping the doors to open that causes the siren to sound, by locking and unlocking the system a couple of times, it sorts itself.

. I suspect the battery is on its way out, as with previous Mercs the alarm was always the signal that a new battery is due, has anyone else had a similar experience?

The fact your hazards are flashing fast indicates that the alarm has been triggered, if your alarm is in working order then the alarm siren would also be screaming, I presume it is not?

Depending on what year your car is?... the siren may need to be replaced.

The rear SAM unit controls the rear lights and the alarm siren. This maybe the cause.

Needs to be plugged in firstly.
