Hi all,

First time mercedes owner here. Just bought a second hand 2014 Mercedes Benz C 220 CDI AMG Sport (estate). It's got 120k on the clock (highest mileage I've ever owned) and is automatic (never had an automatic so a lot of firsts!).

Will be scouring this forum to understand a few things about the car:
  • A weird clunking noise when in reverse and turning - almost like a shift in weight makes the suspension move with some noise
  • Updating the firmware on the command system
  • Updating the maps
  • Sleeping in the car - what blow up beds fit
Bought it with the idea that I can take the bike to places like dartmoor with the bike on the roof, and sleep in the car when doing an all weekender.

That’s a new one for me, ‘what blow up beds fit a C Class Estate’ :D

Is the clunking noise when on full lock...if so it's skipping....How's the tyre wear at the front...plus what makeof tyres...Goodyear are good for curing this as I had iton my S205

Was this a private or dealer purchase?

If bought from a dealer then take it back to get the noise investigated. It could be many things to

As for blow up beds.....

The C Class is not that large in the luggage are even with the seats down. How tall are you?

In terms of what will fit just measure the boot space and spend time trawling through Amazon or similar to check the size of the inflatable beds

You won't like the options for updating Comand on a 2014 C class. It could be a W204 or W205, if a W204 you'll need a PIN from the MB mainframe specific to your VIN plus the DVD's, so it's either MB main dealer or an indie with the relevant Star/Xentry system. Keep an eye on local main dealers as they occasionally offer an update for £99, otherwise the bill will be over £100.
For a W204, this will give you an idea of the cost : Comand APS Map Update Media for Europe NTG4.5, NTG5*1, NTG5*2, NTG6, read the full listing and at the bottom of the page you'll see the cost of the PIN (ouch!).

Not at full lock. I thought it was originally. But it does it throughout turning the wheel. I thought it was the wheel bearing, but it doesn't move, it's solid. Doesn't do it in a straight line, only when turning at slow speed in reverse. You can almost feel the clunk as well. Tyre wear looks ok - they're Prestivo PV-S109 (never heard of them).

Dealer purchase in Bristol, and I live in Devon. They said they'd honour a repair bill from a garage local to me. So I'll be taking it in tomorrow to get it looked at. There's a mercedes specialist walking distance to where I work. Annoyingly, I never had to put it in reverse when i test drove it. Straight out the dealer, down a dual carriageway, and straight back in.

I did read somewhere (and I can't find it now) that this was normal, and a service bulletin had been released to say it was just suspension moving? But I think I'll get it checked out nonetheless. EDIT: found it: Clunking when turning the car in reverse - MBWorld.org Forums

I'm 5'10". I tested laying down in it in front of the dealer - he must have thought "wtf?"! My blow up bed i use in the tent fits snugly in there.

Oof! That's quite a hit! Don't think I'll worry for a while (if ever) then. I can just use the satnav on my phone if it becomes a problem.
Is the W204 / W205 on the VIN? If so, It's WDD204, so I guess a W204

To be pedantic, it’s an S204 for Station wagon. A W204 is the saloon.
