fitted my car hands free kit!

I wired up my Nokia full duplex hands free kit yesterday! here is a pic, it's mounted on a OEM MB telephone console with integrated speaker (thanks MBenzNL) - I discarded the nokia speaker and wired it up to the console speaker, the mic is mounted in the headliner and power is taken from my passenger (usa driver) side a piller distro block. It charges the phone oncee on ita nd I have set the light to stay on in the phone when it is at its cradle for maximum BLING. It also mutes my Sound system and the screen on the cd player starts to animate 'Telephone' and some other funky shiz while the radio is muted - AWESOME!!! get one now!!

Also, is the speaker in the MB console loud enough to be heard clearly under normal driving conditions ??

the speaker in the OEM mb console is MORE than loud enough - infact I have had to turn it down!!! LOL

If you look in the cable tray on the passenger side you will (should) see a power distribution block I used a eyelet and fed power into the car kit from there...

You could be a cowboy and get a feed from the car CD/cassete/headunit but thats lame and I like to do things properly - I also didn't want to put unesccary load on the car stero's headunit - only takes about another 15-30 mins of your time to do it properly. If u need pics let me know.

Thanks for that. I still haven't got around installing my CARK91  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>  but may have a look at it over the weekend.  

Just one other thought....where's the best place to hide the control box ?

my control box was small probably same size as yours, I would mount it on the side of the ash tray - use velcro <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> the microphone you can mount in the headling near the rear view mirror... pic:

K:  couldn't see the power dist. block at all on the passenger side.  Perhaps the wiring has changed - what year is your motor ?   Any other suggestions for the main power feed??

As I've just read the installation notes, where did you take the Ignition Sensing feed from?  

Graham:  have you managed to find the PD block ?

I got mine done by the local hifi specialist . They just took the wiring from the hifi loom and works fine ( is shoddy according to koolvin , but he is a perfectionist , look at the trouble he went to install those puddle lights. <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> ) The cark 91 does diferent things depending on what phone is installed into it . With the 6210 , it asks if you want to leave the phone on , else , it switches off in 60 seconds , as both the 6310 and the 6310i both stay on in the cradle and do not prompt you to turn off the phone and continue to work as normal. The car kit is great. enjoy...

perhaps it has changed, mine is a 1996 model pre face lift - but its weird as it has many face lift parts on there.

u take the kick panel of, then pull away the sill, and then u can get to the cable tray right near the bottom of the a piller you should see it...

My car kit is the Nokia CARK-132 which is specific for the 8310 handset,

In my manual the only power related wires I needed to connect was Positve (always on) and a negative. I did have 2 other wires but it said leave this unconnected and mentioned nothing of their functionality.

If you need power sensing and cannot find the power distro - I suggest you do what all cowboys and even the so called proffesionals do... tap it from you car stereo.

If it was up to me I'd take all seats out, carpet out and lower dash just to avoid connecting and tapping of the radio/stereo loom - but then again I am a fusking loon.

Cheers guys,  I looked all along that cable tray from the footwell back to the rear seat but couldn't see the PD block.  By the way, there's one #### of a lot of cable and tubing in there.

For info the Nokia CARK91 has 5 wires:
Black=Earth
Red=Permanent live (with 2amp fuse)
Yellow=Car Radio Muting
Green=Antenna Motor Control (with 1amp fuse)
Blue=Ignition Sense - turns phone off 20 seconds after killing the ignition (with 1amp fuse)

All wires, in-line fuses and connectors come with the kit.  The only thing you don't get is an antenna, so I got me a tax disc holder type for a tenner off EBay.

I'll let you know when I get it hooked up.

I'm with you on the tax disk holder antenna - unobtrusive and effective. The one on the SL was provided when the car kit was fitted professionally, and it's very cheap and nasty (and due for imminent replacement). The company paid, so I didn't have a choice at the time.

I fitted the kit in the SE myself (sorry Koolvin, tapped into the radio wiring, but did a neat-ish job, cos I was fitting a new radio at the same time). I got the antenna from Dashmount and it is a much nicer article altogether. The pic (here) doesn't show it too well, though.

whoops I forgot about the radio mute wire!!!

I took the 'pin' out of the ISO block connector &nbsp;behind the stereo, cut the pin of, and crimped the old wire and new wire into a new pin and pushed that back into the iso connector!

bear in mind that there are 2 versions in black well 4 versions....


with / without intergrated speaker and also with or without airbag versions also.

airbag and speaker for a RHD car from merc is about 80-90 pounds.

I just rang my stealership and got a quote for B6 787 6771 : black sculpted phone holder for w202 with integrated speaker, which is £97.60.

The parts guy said the speaker is rubbish btw...

Not too worried as K stated that his speaker is plenty loud enough.  But at half price I can hardly pass it up.
