Just got my steering wheel back from being retrimmed. I was fed up with the really grainy and shiney standard leather on the wheel.

So I got it trimmed with Punched leather at the sides and Nappa top and Bottom. I also had the stitching done in a colour to match the stitching on the C55 Seats and Door cards.

With the wheel off, I also took the opportunity to fit the Aluminium paddles in place of the cheap and nasty plastic buttons!

Anyway, will let the pictures do the talking, and ill update with a few more once I fit the wheel back onto the car in the morning.

Earlier posts have suggested this mod should see about a 25bhp increase:thumb:

Got it done by Royal Steering Wheels for £110. He sent me a temp wheel, and it took him a week. Really is top notch work and a good price I reckon!

Well done Terry, looks great! How simple was the paddle shift install?

It was straight forward enough. Just a lot of trimming out the back of the wheel, where the buttons used to be.

Looks fantastic!

Am I the only one who also thinks £110 is a bargain for quality work like that? :)

very high standard of work for a very reasonable price

The silver leather on mine is missing colour at the top (looks grubby but is actually damaged) and I was quoted £70-90 just to repaint/repair it!

Totally agree with all the comments, Jacks work is second to none! Not even 1 flaw in the wheel, spot on!

And some pictures of it all back installed:

This one shows the stitching on the wheel matching the seat stitching:

Looks great.
Really need mine doin as it looks like it belonged to a tramp in its former life

Incidentally, would it be possible to retrofit a W169 or similar wheel to W168? - I quite fancy having the controls for the head unit on my wheel. Particularly the phone button - hate to take my eyes off the road to tap the screen to answer a call.

It's looks really nice, I did my paddles 18 months back, not an easy job as you have to disassemble the paddles, mill out the switch area and custom fit the switch from the old buttons into the new paddles, this may just relate to the e55's not being compatible with the paddle electronics, didn't stop me tho, love them!
PS complete bargain to get the leather done like that imho!

looks the nuts well done!

I fitted paddles (AMG same as in the pics) to my W210 E55 last year.
If they are functional I'd like to see a write up on this please!
