Hi Guys and girls hope you can help...

I'm thinking of installing a Pioneer AVIC-F20BT into my 2005 W209 CLK to replace the Audio 20.

Pioneer AVIC-F20BT - www.pioneer.eu

Ive read the Pioneer's instalation manual which mentions the following connections to be made.

Speed Pulse Wire
Handbrake Sensor Wire
Reverse Sensor Wire

I was guessing that all I had to finda wiring diagram of some sort to find these but noticed there are some universal CAM BUS adaptors on the market that Generates Ignition, Speed Pulse, Illumination, Reverse 12V, Parking Brake Mute & Parking Input

CAN-02 - Can Bus Interface

Has anyone used such things and is it really nessasary to connect these cables?

I know the Speed pulse is so the nav unit can give a more accurate reading of where i am when i have no signal in a tunnel so it calculates where i am depending in the speed coming from the speed sensor wire.

The Handbrake cable must be to disable video in motion so I do not drive while a video is playing in the headunit.

And the the reverse cable is for when I have connected a reversing camera so it can be displayed on the headunits screen.

I know in addition to this i will have to purchase, steering wheel control adaptor, ipod control cable.

If anyone has done a similar project and can point me to the right direction it would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Bhav

hi npuk, thank you for your reply, yes you are correct i have Audio20 and no not have Bose or HK.... which canbus adaptor do you recomend?

What if we do have H/K on our cars?
Is it possible to maintain our sound system and change the headunit with an aftermarket?
I know its an optic fiber issue but i am just asking if somebody knows something more..

Progress

Did you do the install, would be interested tp hear how you got on. I am currently trying to decide whether to replace my head unit with a double din..

Also interested to know whether you or any other members have replaced a Mercedes-Benz COMAND unit with a double din Pioneer? Have owned two single din Pioneer sat nav units plus a double din D3BTi and rate them as the best I've used.

Cheekster.

Ok its been a year since i last updated this post, I didnt go ahead with installing the avic unit last year but im gonna do it now but going for the f20bt's big brother the AVIC-F30BT.

My double din fascia, Steering wheel adaptor and cables came this morning. now just waiting to buy the unit as everywhere I call say thay have to order it in, would rather just pay at the shop and collect it.

So if any knows anywhere who stocks this unit let me know or may just order and wait.

Will try and take as many pictures as I can as I install it.

Pics of goodies

Very few places will stock the f30 due to cost/demand. I don't know where you are but you can try car audio security in London or car electronics in Leicester

Brought it, ended up getting it from Leicester, so bit of a mission! Making a custom fascia now here's how it looks so far.

I've not worked out exactly what's happening here but the sheer level of detail and industry has to be applauded!

Kinda reminds me of my old comand install in the 202...

Lol I'm making a custom housing as didn't want the avic unit sticking out of the housing,

Looks the dogs! carry on with the pics :)

I had an Avic D3 in my previous CLK but opted for the pioneer mount, in fact I still have the kit here somewhere.....
I also had an amp in the boot and made a custom shelf underneath the existing parcel shelf that housed a 10" sub (after removing the stock sub). Was half a quick fit effort, nothing fancy but removed all the parcel shelf and attached it from inside the car so it was permanent. As below:

Nearly there, couple coats of lacquer and a polish and some some adjusting and it should be fine!
