,CLK 350 Sport Convertible,,Golf R mk7,,,,CLK 55 AMG-Convertible,,,,
I’m intending to upgrade the speakers in the clk and wondered if the back speakers are upgraded along with the fronts then would I need an amplifier fitted?,,,car has 2007 Command system but no HK / Logic7,,,
being not far off 60,, the system don’t need to sound like “The Ministry of Sound”” lol but would like a better sound,m,
I believe that people rate the morel Systems highly and our workshop ,who we have been with for over 14 years recommended a local “ice” specialist and he had plenty of ideas but don’t stock Morel,,,
I imagine if I buy a system from command then I could get a mobile ice specialist to install it,,,
Any advice much appreciated ,,, j

Amplifying speakers is not just about volume, it's about quality of sound too.

Having enough current driving a speaker means it doesn't distort as early even on moderate volumes and the quality is better.

Saying that, I had an E55K without HK and the amp I think is rated at 150w although I am not sure what I had but I think it was Audio 50 APS but definitely with COMAND.

So depending on what you have now, you might get away with just replacing speakers with Morels as I could have done with my E55K.

However, I have a W222 S500L now with Burmester and it was shyte compared to what I had in my E55K, so it needed the works.

I have a set of Morels and they are superb. I know others on here with them rate them too.

You might not need anything else so you could certainly do just the speakers and see - although if you are getting them fitted, it would be worth investigating the cost to see the difference between just speakers and then speakers/amp and then speakers/amp/DSP (DSP to clean up what comes from the MB system).

I would personally fit an aftermarket amp though if you are going to the trouble of fitting high end speakers like Morels.

If you are going to keep the car a while, it's worth doing it properly.

Are you sure you have rear speakers? Ours has comand but much to my surprise there are no rear speakers under the covers. I know its a 2003 model so things may be different on yours but.....

Thanks John,,,
quality of sound is paramount and not volume,,
command system retro fitted and data card says car had audio50 ?with cd/radio,,,,so imagine the og speakers are still present,,,

Blimey,,,
I never thought of that just assumed they were there so I have a good look tommorow,,,
Thanks for that GP801

I have COMAND NTG4.7 (no amp), 4 Morel speakers, and an Alpine flat subwoofer, all fitted by Comand UK in Lightwater (Alfie & Richard).

The result is phenomenal, and sound doesn't distort at any volume level.

This is not to say that you can't get better sound quality if you add an amp, just that you don't have to install and amp.

That said, COMAND NTG4.7 is a very robust piece of kit - one of the best they made, I think (though obviously now becoming obsolete due to outdated features) - so I can't say if my experience will also apply to your older unit (NTG2?).

One other thing to note, is that Comand UK also fitted Dynamat soundproofing inside the doors.

Mark ,,i think the Morel 3 speakers in each front door kit with a sub would be great and the Dynamat fitted a big bonus,,,
Thanks for the advice Mark,,,,j
