Hi everyone,

I am contemplating fitting a MB CD changer into an older Mercedes car. I understand that the newer (~Y2K?) MB changers and head units use a fibre optic system (D2B) and a seperate connection for power/wake up? I already have a suitable head unit with the fibre optic connections.

Basically, has anyone retro-fitted these components to a car that didn't have the cabling to start with?

Are the D2B cables and whatever else I need likely to be expensive to buy?

Failing this, does anyone know if there are IPOD interfaces etc available for older MB units (mine is an Audio 30 APS)

Many thanks,

Will

Hi
I did this to my R129 SL. took out the dodgy sony dealer fit, and put in Audio-30-APS nav, CD changer and intergated nokia 6x10 phone system.

The fibre optics and wires are under £50 - I suggest getting ones for the W208 CLK since I think they would be long enough for your 190E.

The D2B interface for IPOD (made by Denison) pretends to be a CD changer, so would work on your Audio-30-APS, but you can't have the CD changer there as-well.

That's excellent info Richard, many thanks.

Do the cables for the W208 CLK have everything that I'd need from scratch, literally?

Where would I be able to find part number for such an item? I take it I'm looking at dealer only?

Cheers,

Will

You can buy fiber opic kits and put you own ends on, there is a retro one from MB for your car

Cheers Malcom, is there a part number for this kit?

I take it it'll be similarly priced to the W208 kit?

Will

Firms like CPC and RS components sell the kits, its also possible that ICE shops also have them

I've had a look through CPC and RS and I can't seem to find these parts?

I would've thought it would be a be specialised (ie MB specific) for most places?

I don't mind paying ~£50 for the OEM MB leads/parts, does anyone have or know where I'd find part numbers for the fibre optic and the wiring cables?

Many thanks,

Will

Sorry Will I was forgetting the custom ends, the other option is a breaker, the wires never normally get sold, you have a wide range of cars to choose from, if the wire is too long, it can be coiled, owing to the bright colour of the cables its easy to spot them in the car.

Other than that PM Alfie

Ok, wiring harness fo just CD changer in trunk of CLK (W208) is
Fibre: A208 540 82 05 - CD changer only fibre loom
Wires: A210 540 15 35 - CD changer wiring, for cars with option 351 APS, 1999 onward) (but, I cant remember if the 351 or 353 is the audio-30-aps)

i dont know if that will have the connectors you need on the far end to plug into the C plug on the back of audio 30 aps - the fibre will have connectors on both ends

Brilliant, thanks Richard I'll start investigating.

If I could find a scrapped W208 or similar with the suitable cabling would they be easy or a pain to remove I wonder?

Cheers,

Will
