I have a set of seats for sale and have had a couple of enquiries regarding all the gubbins required for fitting. I've done a bit of digging about and the best I can find is that you can only fit them if they were originally specified. Indeed, one site says that the floor anchors for the seats, which cannot be purchased, have to be welded into position. This suggests to me that I am correct. Anybody know different?

    Many thanks.

    I'm not sure thats true.

    Try a call to these people as a speculative customer. They will know the answer;

Sorry I should have said I know that there are commercial outfits that do this work, my question was really about whether someone could do it themselves, and I think not. Could well be wrong.

Yep agreed, but if you pose as a potential customer and ask whats involved like will they have to weld the car at all, then you should get the answer.

I always thought that they were fairly easily retrofitted myself but as Jay says the seat belts were the tricky bit thats all.

Im pretty certain that the only barriers are the seat belts and opening windows.
The floor bars are already there.

p.s. the guy asking you questions on ebay is the chap who has bought an ML from me today! small world..

    Hi

I have fitted these to an ML for a friend. It needed brackets for the wheel arches that bolt into place not weld and 2 seat belts, from memory the parts cost in around £300. From EPC you can get all part nos.

I was told by some that brackets would be in place, others said if brackets are not there they have to be welded etc etc etc, the reality was as above.

If they dont have brackets then you buy them and fit them along with the seat belts. The one i did didnt have the brackets although it had the rear opening windows. Everything bolts in place.

As far as I am aware only cars specified for a third row of seats have the rear opening windows.

I have been to some USA sites which clearly say that welding has to be done for a retrofit.

All I want to do is clear my Garage!

Here is the datacard for the car that i fitted the seats to. It clearly shows that it had electric side windows and no seven seat option.

Your American sites might say that brackets need welded but i have bolted them just like MB intended.

I will try and post a link to EPC which shows the brackets.

Third row seats fro ML320 W163

    Hi 230k.

You have done a greta job in detailing the work here. I have just bought a 2001 ML320 W163, and want to add the two folding seats at the back. I have found the seats, but I now realise I need to buy the brackets that bolt onto the wheel arches. Do you know the part numbers for these..or did you already include them in the pdf attachments? Sorry for my ignorance...I am new to this game. Thanks :)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The brackets you need are called consoles as the attached pdf documents, 1 each side. You will need the nuts and bolts too which are listed also.
