Hi All,

I haven’t posted for a while but wonder if anyone can help.

I have a 2006 ML164 320 Sport. The multi-function steering wheel has the “chrome” overlay on the bottom 2 spokes. Unfortunately, it is starting to flake off. My questions: can this be repaired/replaced/refurbished (seems unlikely to me) and, if not, can I just flake the rest of it off without damage and/or making the steering wheel look decidedly worse?

Thanks all for any help or suggestions.

If you can get the wheel off OK (and can live without using the car for a bit!) you could send it to the following - they will be able to vacuum metallize the parts you want re-chromed - basically chrome plating the plastic. They did the hub caps on my wife's Fiat 500 and they've lasted over two years now (obviously outside in salt/dirt from the road). I found their prices very reasonable.

May be worth giving them a ring!

The chrome parts are available from MB, or you could take them off and vinyl wrap them to whatever finish you want.
