Flaking lacquer on ML rear pillars

As the title suggests, suddenly on the black rear plastic pillars either side of the rear screen, the lacquer is peeling off very quickly and very noticeably. I noticed on another ML nearby the same thing happening.

How much to get these re-lacquered you reckon?

Mine have done exactly the same (at least one on the right has) I was looking at getting some more but not sure how they fit.

or could we flake the rest off? so it at least looks ok

They are bonded on. Buy them from MB and get a windscreen co. to fit them. Not pleasant to do.

Hey - things are good thanks - little one is 7 months now! Little smasher he is - although the less said about nappy content the better. Hope all is good with you!

Annoying flaky pillars are spoiling the look of my otherwise very clean bus. I wonder how much those replacements are? On one side, the lacquer has come off so much that you can see what you'd be left with once it's all gone - very matt black.
