2000 CLK 430 cabrio.

My own stupid fault, I left the lights on and as a consequence have a flat battery. The problem is that the manual key does not work. It turns the 90 degrees required quite easily but nothing happens. I have lubricated well with WD40 and also used graphite lock lubricant to no avail despite spending an hour or so trying to get it to release. This applies to both the drivers door and the boot.
I was wondering if there was any way of opening the bonnet from the outside to gain access to the front power point in order to charge the battery or apply power to get the doors or boot open. The other thought was applying power to the rear number plate light which looks to be accessable from the exterior of the car in the hope of popping the central locking open that way in order to access the battery.

getting a flat battery is a nightmare on a Benz!
it's strange if you can't unlock your drivers door manually?
the boot is screwed when you get your battery flat, it won't unlock with metal blade key!
I guess it's a bad and non thought trough IQ construction at Mercedes designing group!
Only way is to connect your charger to your alternator underneath your car, if you jack it up with another jack for easy access will help you alot if you have secured your car with stilts when you work under it.

I hope you don't have to brake your window or cut up your top to get in your car.
I guess your altenator is the only way to get constant power?
Maybe even a locksmith can't unlock your car with his tools?

Don't you have a warning buzz if you forget your lights on?
Make it a habit and walk around your car once, everytime you leave it after been out driving, this way you'll avoid leaving the lights on :thumb:
Good luck solving your problem.

Persevere with the WD40 - it WILL free the lock eventually. The boot is generally the one that seizes, thought it was unusual of the drivers door to seize too!

Spray plenty of WD40 into the lock(s) and keep GENTLY working the key until one of them opens

Back up and running after supplying power to alternator as previous poster suggested. Many thanks.

If your car has side inicators you can report them and take out the bulb -

Then put a jump lead on with 12v - You will then be able to unlock the car with you normal key

Now that you've got it sorted - don't forget to fix the driver's door mechanical unlocking - don't wait for the next time...
