Reading another thread about how often a car has only one occupant got me thinking about one of the results of this. My C Class is now seven years old, I have covered 184,000 miles during that time, more than 90% travelling to and from work on my own.
It arrived new with a set of mats, the driver's one wore out at about 100,000 miles. They were replaced (all four) and the driver's one is worn out again.
When I buy a new set, I will then find myself with another 3 mats in perfect condition.
Why can't someone sell replacement mats for the driver's area only?
Thinking of mats brings to mind another "incident" about 10 years ago. On holiday in France one year, I was in Carrefour, and was surprised by the low cost of mats for my wife's car (Peugeot 306). I thought that this was likely because it was French and more popular, so demand was greater.
I jumped at this "bargain", only to remember when I got home that French drivers sit on the wrong side. The reinforced heel pad was on the wrong side, and there were cut-outs for non-existent pedals.
So much for a bargain!
