Absolutley stunning.... In shock !!!

Gaah! I can't get those google links! Asks for a password? Any chance of one where the words are underlined and you just tap on it?

Noooooooooooooo... Please be wrong.... I want some

I second the fake theory looks like a scene out of jason and the argonauts.Even with power assist to the wings there is no stabilty control for yaw or pitch.Very clever but a fake I reckon

As true as those perpetual motion machines and burning water inventions.

As fake as a very fake thing, and then some :)

Yes that video looks like crap...but the engineering looks good.
Do note he never claims 'human powered flight', it uses electric motors, LiPo batteries, Wii controllers and an Android phone.....

real-ish?

Yeah that's ace, saw the TED video a while back, hadn't seen the one where it gets mobbed by gulls though!

cheers for that

No. There's certainly some kit to make the wings flap a bit, but nothing like enough power there to lift a man into the sky. And with all that design work and attention to detail, how hard would it be to stand somebody with a camcorder a bit nearer the 'take off' point?

The videos are hilariously fake - love the way the helpers run away from the guy before each 'flight' so there's a clear area for the animation.

The guy would need Pectoral muscles that would make Dolly Parton look flat chested in comparison to be able to fly like that. A quick perusal of bird anatomy will reveal just how specialised their "airframe" is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_anatomy

It 'is' power-assisted though

Not the only way to fly ...

Human-powered aircraft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

;)

But there the human is surely using his legs via mechanical systems to power the flight which is much more anatomically/ physiologically possible by harnessing the power of all his existing large leg muscles developed over millions of years of evolution for walking/running upright over large distances. :dk:

Yeah, apparently bird started with big legs and tiny flapping arms for balance (dinosaurs) and took a while to work up to actually flying...

Using motors to make up for missing muscles is evolution in action!

I'd forgotten how long ago it is since Gossamer Condor, and never even heard of SUMPAC...
