Hi - first time on the forum. Have an E280 CDi (2007) with electrically operated folding mirrors. Passenger side has developed a fault in that when you open it goes way beyond the viewing point. Closes to the window fine. Could anyone offer any hlp as to how to resolve this.

Hi,welcome to the forum, have you got your wing mirrors on auto fold in/out on locking?

Yes did have them to 'turn in' on locking but when I developed the fault switched it off. Have manually moved the mirror back to a usable angle though it does not click into a 'seat' at this point and tends therefore to move when driving

Changed the setting from auto fold/unfolsd on my cls & now only fold in/out via the buttons as/when required to avoid wearing the motor out,not sure whats causing your problem but i'm sure someone will have an answer soon.

Sticking mirrors seems to be a common theme at the mo.

Generally a good squirt of WD40 and some multiple operations will sort things.

The fact that yours don't 'click' in to position and they move under wind loading indicates the mechanism is broken in some place.

Sounds as though the mirror has received a knock at some point and isn't fully engaged. With the mirror opened (using the switch) give it a sharp push to fully open and lock onto place.
This happened on my 203 when a young lady went A over T on the ice and caught my mirror on the way down. It would open and close ok but was 'loose'. As I was across the road from my dealer I asked if someone could have a quick look. Tech simply gave it a sharp nudge, there was a click and all well :)

My indicators dont work when the mirrors fold in. Turn off auto fold and not had a problem since then.

Our mirrors on our CLK always folded in on locking the car but after its service it does not work automatically but does work manually which is a little inconvienent. Can someone tell us how we can change them back to working automatically without going back to garage.

I have the same problem with my LH wing mirror on my C220 2013. The wing mirror started unfolding all the way forwards until it was almost parallel with the car. I have since turned off the automatic folding of the mirrors so that they stay put when locking and unlocking the car. However when something slightly touches my mirror or i am getting my car washed it moves again as it does not click into place. I would like to know if there is anything simple i can do to fix this or how much this would cost to get repaird. Cheers

Check the mirror is located properly, someone may have knocked it and popped it out of the locking dogs.
