Merc with manual box is "different" it took me some time to adapt, but you get used to it quickly. Personally I don't like autos, but hey, different strokes....
Don't use the parking brake, just use the normal brake when on the hill and when you need to move off just use the accelerator and clutch as you would anywhere else.
When you get used to it you will not roll backwards. Anyway...I found it easy...but I'm an experienced driver. I do find people present challenges as problems...just get on with it.
"All MB's must be auto" attitude pisses me off. I've owned both and the guys with manual cars don't need constant reminders that they should be driving an auto. It's a free world.
Well thanks to most of you guys, I've just been so used to using a handbrake on hills with the wife's car and my Range Rover was a auto so it didn't come into the equation.
The confidence is increasing in the hill assist, great feature once you become accustomed to it.
Oh and thanks for nothing for a couple of the smart ****s that didn't really take this question seriously
I miss a handbrake too. Using the foot-operated parking brake is just so clunky and counter-intuitive compared to the single arm action required to use a handbrake.
One of my pet hates is being dazzled at night by the brake lights of the car in front when stopped at traffic lights, and using Hold keeps the brake lights on, thus dazzling the driver behind. Maybe it is one of his or her pet hates too...
Anyone else sometimes after releasing the foot brake, somehow leave the most minuscule part of their footwear near the brake and it kicks in again as you drive off? very annoying
I loved the parking break system on my (manual) C-class, never had any problems, so when I discovered the Lexus has a foot operated parking brake it was no problem.
Good job it's an automatic, though, as the brake is released by pushing the pedal again with your left foot.........
