Saw that in the paper this morning - shame it's not a 2.3 Ghia.

there's a market for every niche ...

Just in time for the remake of The Sweeney , about to hit the big screen .

Be interested to see how much this goes for, £15-20k I reckon, as the article says there are some very passionate people around regarding Ford's, though to me this was built right at the end of the era when I considered Ford to be the only manufacturer worth considering
Cortinas are worth a lot of money nowadays, I have been thinking of buying one I had 4 or 5 when I was younger Mk 3s 4s and 5s, the best being a bright yellow mk 4 2.3 Ghia manual, great car for its day it went like stink.
But I have a hankering for another MK 3 but it has to be a 2 door 2.0GT with the pre facelift dash and tombstone high back seats, or if I can find one a Savage.

The sales reps at the company I worked for drove Cortina 1.3s ... nearly all of them had 1.6 badges on them though!

No that won,t run on unleaded without burning out the Valve seats, you had to use a tank of leaded every fourth tankful IIRC and retard the ignition timing as well.
But saying that you could have the head off of that in about half an hour another half hour and the head could be stripped, New valve seats and valves and it would be good to run on unleaded. All the parts for this engine are still available.

Rubbish in 1981, rubbish now.

Absolutely . The only Cortina i didn't like . Loved the 1600E and the Twin Cam Lotus and the Jim Clarke Lotus .

So if it has never been registered, it should get a 12 plate if it were registered today...

How bizarre.

I imagine it is not a nice driving experience now though...

I'm not so sure I put an estimated half a million miles on the 5 Cortinas (Mk 3 & 4's) I had, never remember them being anything but comfortable & good cruisers. Maybe rose tinted memory though.

Mk V Cortina Ghia seats were very comfortable..... My first car was a X reg 2.0 ghia, will always have fond memories of that car....

i used to dream of owning a Mark II 1600E
but alas it was out of my price range
the mark 4 isnt quite so memorable imo

the mark III was quite posh in GXL trim if i remember correctly

Cortina was a good car ... at the time. I had a 1.6 as a pool car fairly frequently (a Mk IV, I think) and enjoyed driving it, but the performance would be pretty poor by today's standards.

A neighbour of mine in the 70s used to have a white Mk III 2000E with a black vinyl roof. He always kept the car immacualtely clean, and at the time I used think it was very impressive.

I bet if you went and drove a Cortina now, compared to your current Merc, you'd think it was agricultural.

I can remember migrating from a 1990/G Escort XR3i in 1999 to a 1993/L E36 325i Coupe.

Like night and day - and that was only a gap of 6 years.

Then selling that 325i privately to get full market value, and then buying an 'interim' 1985/C BMW 525e to bridge the gap to an M3, that 525 was an absolute crock in comparison to the 325i.

At the time - best thing ever and I can remember thinking that about many of my previous cars when I first got them...
