I'm told that this paper has a regular car supplement or section to it, called Wheels I think. I believe the next issue this Friday (28/06/02) has a major feature about George Fraser, who is a MB independent mechanic based in Alperton, NW London, just opposite Alperton tube station (Tel: 020 8795 1055).

I can thoroughly recommed George for all your MB needs, I've been going to him for years as has my dad. I think Koolvin rates him highly too, I'm sure K. will add to this thread

Just thought I'd mention it for those interested

Hey K.!! you didn't write this feature did ya?!? and when is your write-up of your day there hitting the events forum?

S.

p.s. sorry if the info on the paper isn't accurate, just going by what I've been told.

Yep, know george well.

My dad has been doing business with him for 8 years or so now, Started up at a similiar time as my dad did.

He is great, surprising that he hasnt grown very much, but maybe that is because of his no short-cutting approach, adopted by many!!

He has also been featured in MBE.

Oh, yeah, watch out for us in MBE in a few months...our own feature!!

V12,

I'll keep an eye out for ya in MBE Have you seen this months? That Brabus SL55 K8 looks awesome.

Yep I've heard about George's feature in MBE but not seen it yet myself.

Dad and I have been going to George since the early '90s. He has been in larger premises for the last couple of years.

yes I have the writeup ready, im just deciding on how to watermark the images :/ i'll post back when i get back from the German GTG

K speaking of photos.....I see you finally got a thanks from the MBOA boys in todays issue of Mercedes Owner - albeit a one liner hidden on page 20. Still it's something I suppose

K, good to see you got recognition. I was not at the event but could see why you had some strong views on the subject.

I'll try and get to the next one but the wife is working and we don't have relatives local so I have to look after the kids.

I am sure they would like to come along but I am not sure I would. There hard work at 5 and 7!!

Just had a look at the article in the Evening Standard. Seems to be very positive if a bit brief.

Still a bloody good plug for him though. He claims he even does warranty work....how does that work I wonder? I liked the idea that he is intending to hold stock of second hand spares to help keep older models on the road at reasonable cost. Perhaps thats where V12 steps in huh?

I could post the full text if people are interested I guess.

Ok folks, I wish I could get my scanner working with XP even more now, but I did say I would do it so here goes...

"When you're making breakast, George Fraser will probably be in his workshop rebuilding a Mercedes automatic gearbox.

Fraser finds the early mornings the most peaceful time to crack on without being disturbed, because during opening hours, his workshop is a hive of activity.

Fraser loves Mercedes-Benz cars and has done ever since leaving school and becoming an apprentice mechanic. He moved to London during the late 1980's, was head mechanic at a major Mercedes dealership before going it alone - something he's done for the last decade.

Based in Alperton, Wembley there's nothing pretty about Fraser's industrial estate location, a stones throw from Alperton station, but this workmanlike 5,000sq ft workshop that's open six days a week, 7.30am - 730pm, is always packed.

Fraser is typical of todays independant specialist; being beautifully equipped and conversant with all the latest tools and equipment to tackle any job on any model (including warranty work) but undercutting typical main dealer labour charges handsomely, in this case from £80 to £48 an hour.

You wont enjoy the plush ambience and Danish pastries a swish main agent offers, but your car will be pampered. For instance, where a main dealer will cost itemise every detail of a service down to the last light bulb, Fraser will fit a replacement for free and like all the other parts used (apart from batteries) stocks genuine factory items.

His main customers are private motorists and the self employed driving 190's, C-classes and E-classes, and chauffers with their old S-class limos. A minor service costs in the region of £110, while a major one works out at £250 on most models. Fraser has just installed the latest air conditioning equipment and is offering a summer check and recharge for around £80.

Plans for the future include building up a large stock of second-hand parts to keep older models on the road, and he hopes to offer new spares bought direct from Germany."
