Ford XR2i sorry not mercedes

You could well be right. I am amazed at the prices 'fast Fords' from that era are selling for. I guess it is a case of middle aged people who had one/didn't have one and want to relive the experience or capture the dream who now have the disposable income to indulge. Not many decent examples around either, it seems.

Strange it's not been snapped up... Time of year maybe!

Not sure if there is a season for classic buying. From my experience, classic car hunters are always prowling. Is this model less sought after compared to the earlier version perhaps?

Makes sense ... 90's models maybe not quite there yet. Just feels cheap when you consider the condition.. Perhaps people not into XR2's. Could see it being worth a few quid in 10/20 years though ...

Trying to predict what will go up in value is tricky obviously but I personally don't think XR2is or XR2s even are special enough to go up much.

Even at the time there weren't many around although I saw more XR2s than XR2is but I don't think they were particularly popular even then.

The Cosworths and RS Turbo versions, of the late 80s / early 90s models were a bit more special - maybe an RS Turbo Fiesta?

:dk:

Great thread, love the 1990's ford's. I had both a Fiesta RS1800 and Turbo. Boy I had some fun back then.

Would love one again but have no storage.

Personally for a similar 'investment' I'd prefer something more modern, usable and ultimately a better hot-hatch like a 10 year old Renault Clio 182 Trophy. But each to their own. ps. I've fond memories of that era XR2, 20 years ago I did my first track day in one.

I wish I still had my mk1 xr2 :( looked last year at buying another for a bit of fun and none for sale apart from pricey mint examples

I had a fiesta Supersport in 1988 , had it 5 yrs
then traded her in for a Audi coupe Quattro
They are now fetching £5k loved it .

My XR2 was an ex press car, got it from Frog Island (employee sales) it was released to the Island before the general release date (bit of a **** up) and we picked it up on the Thursday and Saturday we drove down to Austria for a skiing holiday, I cannot imagine doing that now!
It was fun though seeing the look on people's faces, as in them days the XR2 was quite a souped up version with its graphics and fat alloy wheels.

your dead right there, the xr will always be in the shadow of the rs models i bought my 92 sierra cosworth in 2007 for 4250 that was the average price for a average car then same condition examples now making 6000 - 7000 ... they will all go up in value just some faster than others

i just wish i still had my mint condition mk2 escort to think of the money i have wasted on cars since if spent on that i would be sitting on a nice nest egg now
