Someone was trying to use my address to apply for a bank account.

    What should I do?

Report it to the bank, police or do nothing?

    Don't do nothing.

Report it to the bank ASAP. And try the old bill too.

    Good luck.

report it to the bank and the police then as recycled says block your address. I had a similar thing kept getting mail addressed to people I did not know saying their credit card application had been turned down. Also check it's not got registered on your credit reference file main agencies are Equifax and Experian had hell of a job getting the fraudulent applications removed from mine took nearly 2 years, good luck

Move to a more law abiding country, preferably one without internet, then you won't have the problem of www scams :D

    Exactly.

Assuming you haven't only recently moved in and the applicant isn't the previous owner, if they didn't use your name too they are going no-where fast.

Did this really happen or did you read an article on identity theft in the Daily Mail today?

Your address is no longer the identifying factor for credit reference agencies. It used to be the case that one occupant of a house could ruin the credit-worthiness of all other occupants, or indeed leave a sour-tasting legacy for subsequent occupants.

But no more. It's all about the named individual. They just use addresses, like date of birth, to make sure they've got the right person.

It a letter in the post not internet. Many thanks for your advices, guys and lasses.

More fraud. Watch out, they tried to milk as much money as they can at these time of credit crunch.

I popped into B&Q today and attracted by the 50% everything on kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms. I was after a wardrobe and asked the staff I didn't see any bedrooms 50% off and he agreed with me there are none. So I bought a Provence solid oak wardrobe for £125 less 40% and went to the checkout and paid £75 for it. Had a hard time to stuff it on the passenger seat of my slk. Managed to get it home and open the box but there was no base, just the doors and the sides. Went back and asked them why they didn't tell me I need another box as 1 of 2 and 2 of 2. Without the second box, the first box is useless. They said I need a smaller box at £150 less 40%. I said what, I thought the £125 covered everything. They said no, individual boxes are priced separately. I didn't want to go back home and bring back the box I already took it home or pay another £90 for it. I ended up spending more than I anticipated.

I still find it amusing that people think the police are interested in this sort of thing. In my experience, they couldn't care less and the banks don't even report it to them for their own reasons. No wonder there are so many scams going around now.

I'm amazed that anyone could get hold of information about Dragon. He/she has never disclosed anything personal here amongst his/her friends on the forum.

Of course he/she is quite entitled to keep his/her location, sex and nationality etc private, but some basic information would help others to aid and understand him/her as a member and friend.

Not trying to pry into your personal live Dragon, it's just that trying to help someone who is just a name on a forum isn't easy.

Please do not knock a person without knowing why he/she does things which while harmless do perhaps annoy you. Would you do it to someone who is bed-ridden most of the time or a veteran suffering a mental disorder?

If you do not have the facts you are in no position to judge. Particularly when a persons actions have good intentions, never abusive and can be ignored or read by choice.
