I have a set of four M-B alloys with tyres that I need to ship to a colleague in Hong Kong. So far I have tried UPS (they will only ship business to business), have requested quotes from Anglo Pacific Freight, DHL, TNT and Dynamic International (specialist freight forwarding company). So far, no one seems remotely interested in even giving me a quote.

Can anyone recommend a shipping/freight company that will actually get the job done, please?

Not an expert by any means but you may have to play the game, many couriers even in the UK are not interested in domestic clients and only really deal with Business and it's usually cheaper and easier.

If you can have it sent from business to business then TNT do a great job. I've sent large items myself before I was a business and it was a nightmare with customs holding on at the other end waiting for the right docs.

Something I am interested in too. I see many businesses able to courier large heavy items from one end of the country to the other or overseas for next to nothing. But whenever i put package size and weight details in these websites for big firms and small they either cant quote or come back with quotes of hundreds of pounds to post for example a bumper or similar. In the end i give up and make items collection only.

Feel your frustration.

Have you tried ParcelForce.

Alternatively there are freight companies that deal with excess baggage.

Do a search for 'excess baggage' and some companies should pop up.

The stuff may need to be collected from the shipping office in the destination company.

Have you tried this one? Freight Forwarding Services Hong Kong-UK shipping, cargo Company - GBS Freight Services

It's probably going to be costly and could indeed be cheaper for your colleague to source the same items in Hong Kong.
He will need to complete relevant HK Customs Documents to enable the HK agent to clear the items through Customs and he may have to pay duty and taxes on them, plus agents fees.

I don't know about HK imports, but anyone importing goods into the UK has to pay Import Duty which is calculated on the total of the cost of the goods + shipping charges + insurance. The Duty used to be 20% and then VAT (at the current rate) was then charged on the total sum of those amounts. (If I remember right).

Thanks for the advice to date. It's all very helpful. Will stick at it!
