C Class 250D Classic 4D Auto, 96P witth 74K on the clock. In good nick, well maintained, no rust.

3rd Party Insurance has offered him 4K. Whats the true value?

What is the best course to pursue?

Parkers is a pay service now?

Where else can one look, for free?

I would say that is about right.
Went onto Parkers and came up with this:
Is a TD though

Take it and run! Sounds like a good deal!

Had a quick look on Autotrader, only one showing with 102000 miles at £3750 for a L reg, so would seem about right. However, if you can find others at higher price, insurance may increase their offer.

Good luck

4k sounds like a damn good offer. bite their hand off before they withdraw

I'd agree with the others, it might well be low-ish milage, but it is a non-turbo, classic spec, pre facelift model. £4K seems like a generous offer IMO :)

Good luck,

Will

Thanks ALL for your informative replies.

Does 3rd party / their insurance not have an obligation to compensate for fair replacement?

This was the closest I could find, 50 miles away! What do you estimate the difference in value between the two? (Pre crash :) ) This is obviously worth more!

(Friend's car has no Turbo, or AirCon, is slightly older and has slightly higher mileage)

But that car is over priced!

Like we said, that is a good offer, full stop.

I'd say that one you have found is worth a couple of grand extra, possibly more? It's got a better spec (air con, folding mirrors etc), but most importantly (as you know) it is a Turbo Diesel!!

There is a significant difference in performance and desirability (hence value also) between this and your friend's car. Don't forget that the price that a car is advertised at doesn't automatically dictate it's worth, sellers rarely get the asking price either ;)

Had a quick look at Autotrader myself, there's quite a few Diesel W202s on there.

A 1996 C250TD Elegance, with 5-spd auto and 96K miles for £4395 (you'd get it for £4K ;) )

Another C250TD Elegance, 1997 model with 69K miles, 5-spd auto, alloys, 'immaculate condition' etc etc for £4800 (Get it for £4.5K!)

There's even a 2001 model C250TD (Classic), auto, air con, all the facelift spec and 63K miles for £7195.

I really think that £4K is a decent offer for this car, and many insurers would have offered less. If I was your friend, I would use this as a good opportunity to upgrade to a newer (TD) model and perhaps get a higher spec car for not much more money.

That 1997 model is newer, lower mileage and better specced, all for £800 more than what your friend's offer is. You could probably buy it for £500 - decent upgrade in my book

Good luck and I hope he is happy with the outcome :)

Will

Price for a 250TD classic. A N/A car will be worth less.
