Should I change the front indicators on my 1993 300CE from amber to white.
Quite cheap off Ebay

It seems to be the fashion...........presumably it is done to make the car look better............but then it is not original!

What do all you Coupe owner think?

Mine are clear with clear repeaters. Car is Beryll Blue so I think it suits the car better. Now if the car was a dark colour, say Obsidian, I'd go for smoked. Send me a PM iwth your email address and I'll fire you down a picture. Not sure about all this uploading/downloading and number plate editing thingy, yet.

This is mine - Pearl Blue Metallic - not a great photo - a little dark - but you all know the colour as it was popular

This photo is a little "light" and the "squiddle" on the door is a mark on the sensor, (now cleaned), on my digital camera

Oh, and the oil drips underneath are not mine!

I think the Amber indicators look fine, its right for the period of the car.

bill 33 that is the exact same colour as my car when i bought it had clear indicators on it but one of the indicators where crack so i bought the crystal clear indicators with the chrome indicator bulbs and looks well

After looking at a couple of photos I think that i will change them to white as I feel that white will brend more with the marvelous serenity of the 300CE in that colour, (no I have not been drinking - well I have but not that much)

change the repeaters on the wings as well then. If it were mine I would leave it - looks good. I would get rid of those balance weights on the wheels though :)

I prefer the original amber lens on mine, shows up better too IMO.

Will do when I decide on the wheels and have them balanced on the inside, (micheldever are very good at that),..............almost ready for new tyres.....and the wheels are about 80% good......question is refurb @ about £200 or buy some 16" ones

I have white one, as they were already fitted to the car when I bought it. I , at first, wanted the car to be as original as possible, so I bought some amber original ones off Ebay, but have so far not got round to fitting them . Its a finely balanced matter of taste. Given that the clear were fitted to later models of the same overall shape, I dont think it upsets the purists too much, and so long as you keep the originals somewhere safe then all is well!.

Careful with the 16" 8 holes - most of them are for the 129 SLs and I dont think they fit the 124.
I would stick with the 15s; get them re-furbed properly the rest of the car looks like it deserves it.

It does look good i confess but you ought to change the orange repeaters too! :)

Looks nice.......I must admit the more I see the clears the more I prefer them on my Pearl Blue car, the ambers look at bit like trafic lights and stand out just a little too much, ..as you said as long as I keep the ambers I can always return it to original.
Were those wheels an option or did they fit them before the 8 holes .........just interested to know.......if I remember correctly I had them on my H Reg 300TE when I bought it new.
My 300CE is K Reg 1993 and the 8 holes came originally with the car as a factory fit, (there are 5), as per the VIN spec.

Cheers

Best to keep it original. AFAIK the clear lenses came in with the facelift bonnet and body coloured bumpers, so those in the know won't be fooled about its age. If its how you want the car to look fine but do change the side repeaters and rear lights at the same time.
lovely car by the way -nice combination with the light trim

As few photos of the inside.
Almost "as new" - as a 16 year car can be - apart from usual cracking on centre arm rest......carpets always covered.....rear seats hardly used
Little dark squiddles are marks on camera sensor

Very pleased with the car and looking forward to improving it back to as near "mint" as possible

I think they were the standard alloys before th2 8 hole design came in. They came with the car so i assume they are original equipment. :D

Looks great.

Personally I prefer the amber on the pre facelift (like mine) and somehow whenever I see pre facelift on smoked indicators it looks like a modified car - which it is...

The logic of updating a c1990 car to look a bit more like a c1994 car in 2009 is beyond me.

However, if you like the extra width it gives the front, then why not, horses for courses and all that.

I'd also keep the wheels original, round me there are dozens of C124s sporting various types of incorrectly sized AMG reps and they look plain silly. Its an understated, smooth gentleman's express not a traffic light dragster, keep it is as the designer intended. ;)

I echo what Ade has said. I've had my 88 300CE a long time now, and I did buy clear lenses, but never got round to fitting them. I always thought the orange clashed with the nautic blue, and clear lenses of the newer cars made them look much more streamlined, but the car is 21 years old now, and I have become very attached to it.

BTW, the wheels in the picture are 16" replicas, and were on the car when I bought it. It now has genuine 15" 8 holes.

Good luck with your car, Bill, it looks greatl. I think we should have a CE GTG at some point!
