I think I need to replace the front shockers, they have started squeaking. Are these gas ? and what brand are original, and what are the best ? Cheers.

Are you sure the noise is coming from the shock?....more often its one of the bushed pivots or ball joints. Shock tend to knock when worn....not squeak.

I don't know if your problem is indeed due to faulty dampers, but just to say that all of the standard (not Airmatic) genuine MB dampers that I have seen so far were made by Sachs.

Bilstein are also considered a good aftermarket alternative, and they are offering both OE-equivalent dampers and performance dampers.

Hope this helps.

I do have a knocking as well, I have been trying to trace for a few weeks now.

Cheers mate.

I’ve just fitted Sachs to both my cars recently , sourced from Autodoc. Sachs was on both cars when I took them off .
If you are lucky you may find a part number or sticker on the old shocks
