Front Window Tinting Advice.

Holy thread revival, Batman!

This is primarily a UK forum, and by law the maximum tint you can have here is 25% on the windscreen and 30% on the driver & passenger side windows. The large majority of factory tints are based on that, so adding any kind of aftermarket film on top will potentially get you into trouble (you can do what you like to the rear windows, hence factory 'privacy glass' options).

I think the issue is that the actual tint level varies between marques and between trim levels etc, and the car manufacturers don't actually provide the tint level spec in %, and so the only way to find out what tint level exactly the car currently has is by measuring it using a tint meter.

Yes I'm sure factory tints vary, but typically you can't go much further (if at all) while staying legal.

Driver's door glass on the Beemer:

Note the "Transp. 70% min" mark (and that BMW use Chinese glass).
The factory privacy glass in the back is so dark I can't read the markings!

Checked our C Class today and that has the same 70% marking (original MB windows).

70 percent limit for fronts fact as my mate does it for a living, however if you tint over factory tints they will be illegal.
So basically he does not tint any front windows?.....there are no cars built without tints these days are there? Think my last one without was a Mk2 Escort!
