I have a cls 55 w219 2005 and recently the radio froze on the amg sign, after turning the audio on and off several times the radio eventually turned on but the sound kept cutting out, I have had the car to an audio shop who said that the radio should have a large plug to the rear but mine has a small plug and the cost to sort an aftermarket radio would be in the region of £1500/£2000 , could anyone advise me on who specialises in audio around the Manchester area please?

You need a Mercedes specialist. The system is not ordinary-stereo-like. It is distirbuted over the car and connected via fibre optics depending what you have. If you have Harmon Kardon then changing to something different id difficult as you need an interface from the fibre optic to normal stereo (and you lose quite a lot of control such as front/rear fader). What you describe can be anything on the fibre optic loop failing.

Aftermarket Android-based head units that resemble the original are available from around 200 quid, so I'm not sure why you were quoted that amount. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154026565869

The shop was talking about replacing with an android system, maybe even going as far as new speakers etc, their advice is to go for a star machine first but given me the worst case scenario, cheers

I've been told the Dynavin N7-MBE is very good at around 500 quid. I'm tempted but can't justify it because mine's a weekend car & the existing one does the job fine (at the moment, until it stops working like yours 😬😂).
