Recently bought a 1993 S500 SEC in black. Absolutely pristine inside & out apart from the carpet covering the boot floor. Previous owner moved a battery for a friend and, surprise surprise, over it went. I've spent a lot of time browsing the net but can't come up with anybody that can help including breakers. The carpet is a pale bluey grey. Any ideas anybody?

Have you had a price for a brand new one from the main dealer? Just that some items can be a lot cheaper than you think and if nothing else it'll give you a ball park figure to work with when assessing what to pay for a second hand one

The C140 is quite a rare car so it could require some patience to find one in a breakers. Is the boot carpet the same as the saloon by any chance?

You might find someone that could re-dye it if that's the only damage.

Forgot to say that the carpet is completely shot, all the tufts keep falling out.Am told it is the same as the saloon but no breakers seem to have one or can't be bothered. Havn't tried MB because I thought the price would be extortionate.

there may be colour variations so check with your dealer. there appear to be 3 colour/material variants WITH the previous part no terminating with 7144 or 8F32 or 7142 ------costly at £103 plus vat! here http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/find/default.aspx?PartNumber=1406800242
so I guess a breaker still best bet. At that money you could get someone to make one up for you using the old one as a model or simply get a carpet off cut (bathroom or kitchen waterproof material) and make one up yourself.

IIRC, Very early C140s were badged as 500 SECs

1993 should be a C140. The world premiere of the 140 coupe was in 1992 at the motor show in Detroit in January. The European premiere was in March.

1993 on an 'L'. 500SEC was 1992-1993 and later badged as a CL
