Car
2002 SL500; '54 E270 CDI Elegance Estate; 2001 C200K Coupe
Just bought a '51 E240 Elegance Estate, Excellent condition with genuine 54k.

The car has been main dealer serviced since new with dates and mileages adding up, and all MOT's.

The thing is, with all the service history, there is no record of changing:

Air Filter
Pollen Filter
Spark Plugs
Fuel Filter
Brake Fluid
Coolant

What happens when (or if) I take it for it's next service and I am told it needs:

Air Filter
Pollen Filter
Spark Plugs
Fuel Filter
Brake Fluid
Coolant
??????

Can I say it should have been done at previous services and get it done for free?

And if not, What Is The Point Of A Full Service History?

Still, love the car! anyone want to but a '99 E240 Elegance Estate with 146K, special TOG Edition: Beige on Beige!

Fuel Filter and Plugs are 60K items aren't they - so wouldn't have been done yet anyway.

Seems crazy to stretch plugs to 60K !!!

For all they cost , I change mine at 12K intervals .

The previous owner might have just had the basic services done at Merc and either DIY or indie for the add-ons.

Also, as per other post, some of the listed items are just about to fall due..

Brake fluid is usually ticked in the service entries - there's a box for it.

Are you going by the car's book or do you have a dealer service print-out (which will have the full history on it)?

Assuming it's the same setup as the W211 E240 then there are 12 of them. And they're long life. Service book says 4 years/60K.

I usually buy mine in Halfords - about £20 per pack of four - even that strikes me as expensive .

Thats not to expensive! until you have to buy 16 of them.

Plugs nowadays are almost fit and forget, i have changed several over the years and cannot remember the last time i found a duff one.

On the yank sites they all say plugs are good for 100,000 miles in the 112/3 engines.

Contact the main dealer where the services were carried out and they will be able to look them up on their system to see what was done. :)

The book wont tell you anything.. ring the dealer they will tell you exactly what was done and may even supply a print out if they are feeling helpful.

It would be interesting to see what effect old plugs has on HT voltage and spark timing.

if you get them from mb any chance of a number :)

If you go to the GSF site you can get the bosch ones very cheap.

Personally I would never leave a set of plugs in for 60,000 miles cause there is the possibility that you could face all sorts of problems in getting them out if they have been in there for that long.
