I'm going to have a set of 14" Fuchs 'Mexican Hat' alloy wheels for sale , from the early W126 280SE I'm buying ; I also have a set of four Dunlop SP Sport 195/70 HR 14 tyres which have seen very little use although are 3 or 4 years old .

The wheels on the W126 are , from memory , in good condition in as much as they are not dinged or dented anywhere , but they are dirty and may clean up OK or may need refurbishment - I have still not taken delivery of this car due to still having the Fintail taking up space on my drive - but will go down and take photographs of the wheels tomorrow . I suspect these wheels will probably be the same width/offset as those fitted to W123 models and will confirm exactly what size they are tomorrow .

The tyres are ones I bought for my 190E less than a year before I got the 190E 2.6 and then gave the older car away to a friend with the stipulation that I wanted my 'new' tyres back - the tyres have been stored in my shed since and I only covered 5 or 6 thousand miles on them so very little tread wear . I know tyres of this size are difficult to obtain now and are sought after by owners of W123 models , particularly the 280E/CE/TE .

I was going to put these tyres onto the 280SE , but I have just been offered a set of 15 hole alloys of the same design as fitted to my 500SEL and I prefer the look of these even if slightly less original .

I can't remember if the spare in the 280SE is steel or another alloy but it will be included whatever it is ; the tyres currently on the Fuchs alloys are legal but not great and I'm not sure how old they are . When I'm down at the car tomorrow , I will confirm what the 5th wheel is and post back here along with some pictures of both wheels and tyres .

I'd be looking for £150 for the set of five wheels complete with old tyres and the four 'good' tyres as a job lot with the buyer either collecting or arranging a courier .

Please PM if interested .

OK , update as promised .

There are 5 Fuchs alloy wheels on the 280 just now , the tyres currently on them are better than I remembered ( apart from the spare which is rubbish) , all being very little worn but budget brands I have never heard of and age and history unknown , so my Dunlops which have had equally little use and have not been abused are still included in this sale ( they won't fit any of my other cars anyway ) .

Firstly , pictures of the wheels :

I had a good look all over them for the size but could not see anything , I had it in mind it was stamped between two of the bolt holes on the outside , but despite looking at all four fitted to teh car , and to both sides of the spare , I just could not see anything .

The Dunlop tyres are currently in the boot of another car which is in a friend's garage , I won't get access to them until Monday so will post pictures of them then .

A further development in this saga , which I'm pretty livid about , is I went down to get my tyres today which were in the boot of my 190 , parked up in the back yard of a small garage run by a mate ; I had left a key in case the car needed to be moved and when I looked in the boot - no tyres !!! My friend who runs the garage is equally annoyed and embarrased at this and has asked me to leave the matter with him and he'll 'make it up to me' once he gets to the bottom of what has happened since someone has to have used the key hung in his office to get into the car .

Anyway , the price of £150 was for the wheels plus the good set of tyres - since the tyres have gone I guess I'll be wanting £100 for the wheels on their own ( with the tyres presently on them ) . I can only apologise for what has happened , but hope the amended price reflects this .

Update : after phoning to say that a prospective purchaser of the wheels and tyres had been put off by the absence of the tyres , I discovered that the tyres have been 'found' .
Since I'm now getting a free valet done on Jan's car to make up for the 'misunderstanding' I'm going to consider the matter closed , and find a new home for the 190 asap .

The original offer is therefore back on the table , unless the person who has shown interest buys them first !
